Apple Brine for Turkey the Night Before Cooking

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2008
We eat turkey frequently since it is inexpensive for our large family, so I wanted something a little different for the holidays. This did make a difference, not so much in the flavor, which was good, but the turkey was much more moist and it seemed to have a more intense taste. The leftovers were great in turkey and dumplings! One warning though, it makes a BIG diffrence in cooking time! My turkey was done a full hour before normal! I will use this recipe again and again. Just the cut in cooking time made it worth it to me!

Absolute Best Pancake Syrup

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2008
Wonderful! Made to directions the first time, we loved it, like warm cinnamon ice cream, but it made me think of all kinds of things I could change to make it a little diffrent. We will use it for ice cream, and all kinds of desserts!

Made these to impress a guest of my husband's. He said they were the best he'd ever eaten! Thank you so much, I followed the directions to a T, and it turned out awesome.

excellent pudding, worth the time it takes! I will add a tad more vanilla next time, and maybe try the slow cooker, as someone else said.

Hot Water Cornbread

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2008
Out of 8 people, 6 loved it, one said it was ok, and one did not like it. I liked it, but it was a little bit too salty. I fried it in bacon grease, so I think that upped the salt a little bit. I was wanting a recipe that duplicated one my grandmother use to make, this is not it, but close. I will add some garlic and onion powder, and maybe some other things and try again. Good base recipe, adjust to your taste!!

Chilled Strawberry Soup

Wow, very good! Everyone liked it, after they got over the idea of cold fruit soup! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because next time I will add more strawberries!

Nice recipe, turned out well! First time hubby had lamb, and he thought it was pretty good. The gravy was a little too tangy for most of us, though!

Tara's Sweet and Chunky Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2008
I did not have sunflower seeds, and used chicken I cooked at home, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. It was great tasting, but I will add more mayo and the seeds next time. Also thought that canned chicken may make it too salty, so will stick to home cooked. Great recipe that was a little diffrent!

These were really sweet, so next time I will cut the sugar a bit. But we did love the rich chewy texture. I also like the fact the recipe calls for cocoa powder instead of bars, I ALWAYS have that on hand!

Aztec Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
Very good. I always try to rate the exact recipe the first time, but I did leave out the corn. My family liked it as is, but the second time I added black olives, onions, and black beans. We also tried flour tortillas. They went crazy over it. Very easy recipe to add to for personal taste. Next time I will try chips instead. We eat this often!!

Very, Very, Very Good Cheesecake

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2007
Excellant! Made it twice, at first with no changes, good taste but too fluffy. The second time I cooked it until done, about 40 minutes longer than called for, and at 325. That time it also tasted great and had the dense, heavy texture I love. Very easy to adjust the cooking time/temp for the texture you want, if you are even slightly experienced with cheesecakes. The taste is wonderful, not too sweet, and pairs well with many toppings. One thing though, if you want the "fluffy" texture, don't top it until right before serving, or it will fall!

Root Beer Float Ice Cream

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
This was the first recipe I've tried for homemade ice cream, and I liked the taste ok, but it was way too rich(even the kids thought so). I made it again with less cream and more milk and it was much better! Of the seven people in my house who tried it, 4 loved it, 2 not so much, and my husband said it tasted like Pepto!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Wacky Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2007
Actually the cake is about 4&1/2 stars, very good. The topping, about three. If you really like peanut butter, it is good. I made this for my daughters birthday, and it was different, not a hit, but well recieved! As a note, do the broiling, it makes a huge difference, makes the topping crispy and gooey. Similiar to a toasted marshmallow.

Navajo Fry Bread I

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2007
Wow, I have never seen fry bread like this, and have at least a dozen recipes! Had to try though. Nothing like my Grandmothers made. Quite strange for someone raised on fry bread. Good, just not fry bread. Grandmother told me how the Old People made fry bread to live through lean times, hard to imagine them having kosher salt and ice water!
