About this Cook
My name is Kerri, I'm 29 and have 1 picky husband, 18 nieces and nephews, 2 cats and 3 dogs. I come from a family of necessity cooks. My grandma had 13 kids so she had to cook alot from scratch to be able to afford to feed them all, my mom had 4 kids but my brothers always brought home thier stray friends so we always had lots of teenage boys for mom to feed. For me it was natural to start cooking and with all the family recipes to learn I learned to enjoy cooking. Lately I've been branching out from my normal repertoire so I found my way here.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking comfort food, mexican dishes, chineese food... but I love to find easy ways to make great tasting food from basic pantry fair. I want all my nieces and nephews to learn how to cook something besides ramen noodles. So I come up with things that take less than 20 minutes to put together from stuff they will find easily.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family has always been about making good food for anyone who came through the door. We always had an open fridge policy... anyone who came in wouldn't leave hungry.
My cooking triumphs
Learning to make gnocchi for the first time and having it come out edible!
My cooking tragedies
I only ever once made something I didn't want anyone to eat... it was a VERY broke time when I was 17 and living on my own with my boyfriend and a niece we were raising at the time. Had to use deer burger and tried to make escalloped potatoes with the deer meat... it was HORRID... never tried that again.

Hawaiian Millionaire Pie
Just a side not to those who ended up with a "RUNNY" pie... you have to make sure you drain the pineapple extremely well, I opened my can about 30 mins before even starting anything else. (knowledge from years making fruit salad) You want the fruit to be as dry as you can get it. If not it will break down your whipped cream sooooo fast and you end up with a runny mess. Overall good pie though :P

Easy Skillet Chicken a la King
Good base... added garlic, poulty seasoning and couple of dashes of hot sauce and put over potatoes. Was rushed for time and didn't want to go shopping so I tried it...tasted better than I thought it would and I'll make again.
