Banana Crumb Muffins

De-lish recipe! I healthied things up by subbing some whole wheat flour, and by using oil in place of the butter in the batter, and added 1 t. vanilla. Yummy muffins!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
I never make white bread, as I am a health nut and usually prefer to make whole grain bread, but since I was making BLTs for dinner last night, I figured white bread would be nice for a change. It turned out very well and everyone enjoyed it. I made this completely by hand instead of using my mixer as I normally do, and I'm glad I did. I think making it by hand is what gives it the right texture. After all, the Amish do not use electric appliances. I used the full amount of sugar and unlike many reviewers I did not find it to be too sweet. In fact, it reminds me a great deal of Wegmans Farmhouse White bread from their bakery, which is a heartier white bread also. I will definitely make this again if white bread is ever required, and I see no need for changes!

Mexican-Style Taco Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Very good! I made as is except used a can of chili beans instead of plain kidney beans. Topped our salads with tomatoes, olives, yellow peppers, and green onions, then served at the table with extra salsa and sour cream. I will definitely be making this again!

Tender Breaded Turkey Cutlets

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
The flavor of this was great, and I had no problems at all with my breading falling off or sticking. I did find them to be dry, hence only giving them 4 stars, but that is probably my own fault rather than that of the recipe.

Focaccia Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
Some of the reviews for this recipe surprise me, such as the last one. My bread rose perfectly and was as far from a "hockey puck" as you can get. It was light, delicious, and flavorful bread, and it doesn't matter to me whether or not traditional focaccia has milk or water if the recipe bakes up well. I've made a number of different focaccia breads, my usual being Michael's focaccia from this site, and this was a slightly quicker, and still VERY yummy alternative, perfect for a Friday after work to serve my family with homemade soup! I followed this to the letter, except added fresh rosemary and sea salt to the top of the bread.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
I followed the recipe exactly, which I NEVER do, but did this time, since I was making this to put out for Bunco night, and gatherings like that require full-fat goodies. Well, they taste delicious, but I found them to be a bit dry, so next time I will use oil instead of butter and moisten them up a little more with some applesauce! Good recipe, just not the ultimate- Yet!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2009
This was delicious! Not the best cheesecake I have ever had (hence the four stars) but very very good regardless. I followed the recipe exactly and then topped the finished product with local raspberries my kids and I picked and a raspberry coulis I made from a few more of the berries! Took it to dinner at some friends' and it was a big hit!

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

All I can say is "Yum"! Our steak was delicious, tender, and so good! I changed only one thing, and that was adding some onion powder as well as the garlic. I highly reccommend this marinade!

Tangy Barbecue Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2009
This is a great sauce, and I've made it twice now and intend to make it my regular! Like others, I've added a couple of my own "secret ingredients", but the base sauce is amazing by itself also! Thanks Jenine for this sauce!

Baked French Fries I

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
I've now made these twice and I absolutely love them! They taste a lot like the seasoned frozen ones I used to buy all the time- only BETTER! The seasonings are perfect and I didn't find the bake time too far off. If you cut your potatoes into nice thick wedges the way I like to, they do take almost 45 minutes. I shake the potatoes and seasonings in a plastic bag with the oil so it is all well coated, then pour out onto a baking sheet layered with parchment. This makes the taters bake up great with NO sticking! Great recipe!

Fiesta Stuffed Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
Delicious turkey burgers! Yum! I made as is except for adding one egg white to help moisten and bind all ingredients together, and I topped with the pepper jack cheese instead of stuffing them. Grilled outside on the gas grill, but laid down foil over the grate, since I've had lots of trouble with turkey burgers (especially moist ones) sticking before, even when sprayed with Pam. Perfect solution! I served these on homemade onion rolls (yum) with spicy ketchup! Will make these again for sure.

Yellow Squash

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2009
Super yummy! The yellow squash (and everything else) from my garden is starting to come in now, and we just came home from a week at camp to find tons of it! So this fit the bill as an awesome side dish with pesto pasta for dinner. The only change I made was adding a little of my cilantro also.

Grilled Potatoes and Onion

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
Amazing! This recipe is exactly like the way my mom used to fix them so that Dad could throw them on the grill with whatever meat we were having. Very easy, but so simple and delicious! The grill just does something to the potatoes, almost sweetens them I think, and makes them incredible! I made them for dinner tonight with our chicken and my gang all loved them!

Gary's Turkey Burritos

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
I made these a couple of weeks ago for dinner and with the exception of my four-year-old, we all loved them! I used Rotelle tomatoes in place of the hot tomato sauce like another reviewer suggested, simply because I already had them. I also used refried black beans with lime! Yum! Definitely will be making these again!

Beer and Brown Sugar Steak Marinade

Great marinade! I used a stout for this, and I think the super dark beer worked best with the sweet brown sugar. This made two absolutely delicious, tender sirloin steaks that the family loved. Thanks Craig for the recipe!

Sugar Cookies VIII

Reviewed: May 6, 2009
These are amazing sugar cookies, especially if you are looking for a traditional, buttery sweet cookie with no frills. This recipe makes old-fashioned, delicious, soft cookies. One tip in making these come out great: rather than drop them onto your baking sheet using spoons or a scoop as you would with chocolate chip cookies, roll them into 1 1/2 inch balls, then roll through a small bowl of white sugar, then place on the baking sheet. This makes them perfect!
