My name is Jennifer and I am currently a single mom raising two children. My son, Isaiah, is 10 and my daughter, Karah, is 6. I have been cooking ever since I was a child. My mother would let me help in the kitchen. When I became a little older, she would let me make dinner on my own. At 15, I begged to make Thanksgiving dinner for the family. She let me take the lead and helped out when I needed it. It turned out great and I've been going strong ever since. During the summers when school was out, I would search in my mother's cook book for recipes that I could make with the ingredients in the kitchen. My mom and dad would come home from work to something freshly baked in the kitchen. I hope to pass on my love of food and cooking to my children so I include their help in most of the meals that I make.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake!!! It is my passion. I recently started working on different types of bread recipes. So far, everything has turned out great. Aside from bread I love to bake cookies, cakes, pies, tarts, etc...
My favorite family cooking traditions
I live about 1000 miles away from my family, however, when I go home, I love to be in the kitchen with everyone around helping out. I guess the tradition is the men in the living room watching TV and the ladies in the kitchen cooking, telling stories, and drinking wine. A little cliche', I know, but I love it just the same.
My cooking triumphs
I would have to say that anytime the family is happy and the smoke alarm doesn't go off is a cooking triumph. More recently, I make a loaf of Brioche and it was heavenly.
My cooking tragedies
When I first began cooking on my own (as a teenager) I decided that I wanted to make cream puffs. They turned out disgusting. I can't even remember what it is that I did wrong, but the only edible part was the chocolate icing on the top. Yuck!! I still haven't attempted cream puffs, although that may change in the near future. I'm feeling brave.
