First and above all, I am a mother of three--a 4 yr stepdaughter, a 4 yr daughter, and an 11 mo son. My husband is my best friend and a great dad, he's also a much better cook than I am! I also work full time and go to college part time. I'm 23 and I love reading, movies, and camping.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking desserts and baking stuff. I'm not such a big fan of cooking dinner, but I get it done. My husband helps a lot. My mom really only taught me how to bake, so I still have a lot to learn.
My favorite family cooking traditions
On birthdays, I get online with my daughters and we look at cakes at places like familyfun.com. They pick the cake that they want and we bake it together and they help decorate it. It's a nice way to spend some slow, quality time with them on a special day. It's usually hard to find that time since I'm always busy with work, school, the baby, etc.
My cooking triumphs
My husband and I worked together and came up with an excellent recipe for apple pancakes with apple-flavored butter. We simmer a couple of chopped apples in about 2 sticks of butter flavored with cinnamon, brown sugar, and vanilla for about 15 min. Then we strain the butter and save it for a topping and mix the apples into the batter. The kids love it.
My cooking tragedies
Just the most recent tragedy: my daughter and I made special cupcakes together for her 4th birthday to take to the preschool and share. When I went to pick her up, they gave me back the cupcakes and said they are not allowed to have stuff made at home. If I want to bring cupcakes, they have to be from the store. I was devastated.
