About this Cook
I live in Delaware Ohio on a family farm. My imediate family lives with in 1 mile of me and I wouldn't want it anyother way. Besides cooking I love gardening (in 2007 we had 48 tomato plants) and crafting. I love animals and have 2 dogs and 1 cat (plus barn cats).
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to cook is Pie any kind of pie and since I have a line of people waiting for me to slice them when I take them somewhere they must be good.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma used to let me help her can tomatoes sitting on a bar stool (because I was to short to reach the counter) to this day I can't wait to get that first jar full of tomato juice.
My cooking triumphs
I made a concord grape pie from start to finish and won best of show at the local fair.
My cooking tragedies
Not really a tragedie but still trying to live it down. My first pie was peach and couldn't get ahold of mom or my 2 g-mas to ask if I should peal the peaches. My sister (who is a home eck teacher) told me to leave them on. The pie was a little fuzzy, everyone got a good laugh but it did disapear. My sister a couple of years later went to a gourmet restaurant and guess what they had on the menu! So I guess I am a gourmet chef. Now my husband (who I made the first one for) helps me make pie and is always slipping skins in because he says it makes it more flavorful. All this and I still catch greif whats a girl to do?

Pancakes
We usually get bugs in our pancake mixes before we use it all up so I was looking for a recipe that had everthing I always have on hand. I've made this several times and have never had the problems of some people with them being flat. I think the key is to have fresh self rizing flour or baking powder and let them sit for a little bit before you use the batter to let the baking powder activiate. We love this recipe, infact I usually end up doubling it and having left overs for the next morning.

Hummus III
I love hummus and can eat a little tub from the grocery store in one day if no one is watching me, but most of this went to waste. I made it just as written and it was bland, I fiddled with it and fiddled with it and never found anything to make it better. I doubled the amount of lemon juice and it was still toothpaste thick and bland. The only part of it we did eat was with some roasted garlic bread I got from the grocery but once that was gone the rest sat in the fridge. Very disapointing and I will keep looking, hopefully my next attempt will not turn out so bad, otherwise I will keep buying it from the store.

Fried Cabbage II
I have to say my husband loved this. It was a pregnancy craving for me so I didn't think he would even touch it. The reasons for only 4 stars. The vinager did absolutely nothing for me and I love vinager. Next time I make it I'm going to have more onions, and maybe add a little fresh garlic or garlic chives. Without the vinager it tastes like spring rolls.
