About this Cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Well, I recently learned that I have Celiac disease - so now I look for good gluten free receipes. That's what I'll be adding here. They'll all start with gluten free in the title.
My cooking tragedies
My very first Thanksgiving as a newlywed I wanted to make a perfect dinner. I also made a traditional pecan pie. The directions said to mix the pecans in and pour into pie shell. No way!! I wanted mine to look like the restaurant kind with the pecans on the top. I carefully placed them on top and put it in the oven. When it was finished, I went to take it out and I had glazed pecans covering the inside of the oven. Steam had built up under the pecans and when it burped, I got glazed pecans EVERYWHERE. Since then I have realized that the pecans raise to the top while cooking. All was not lost because I also made a pumpkin pie. A different THanksgiving I put my pecan and pumpking pie in the garage overnight to keep cool. Well, mice like pumpkin pie better than pecan pie. Another Thanksgiving dinner foiled.

Eggplant Supper Soup
I started making this meal but my hubby finished it while I took a child to the emergency room. Poor guy, I failed to mention that I prefer eggplant without the skin. The skin was too chewy...Soup is never as nice when you need to pick out an ingredient, The broth was really tasty. However, the kids only ate a small bowl and hubby commented that the cheese saved it. I won't fix this again.

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs
Loved by everyone. Found out much later that my 11-year-old thought these had fallen in the grass, so he just picked off the rosemary and ate them anyhow. How funny!

Lasagna Roll Ups
I've always been afraid to try tofu...this made trying it very painless. It also made a wonderful comfort food enjoyable with half the guilt. I will fix this again.
