Chicken with Mushrooms, Prosciutto, and Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
this was so good! i used chicken breast instead of thighs and cut the recipe to feed 2 people instead of 6. i was iffy about using the wine for the sauce since im not a huge alcohol fan, even the taste of it in my food. i decided i would try it with the wine and im very glad i did. came out perfect. i made some mixed veggies with it and just tossed those in the remaining sauce with some salt and pepper. this is going in my keeper box for sure. might try it with thighs next time just to see if theres any difference in taste. but certainly a 5 star with the breasts.

Cream Cheese Jalapeno Hamburgers

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
these we're really good despite the fact that i charred them a little bit on the grill. i just mixed the cream cheese mixture and the jalapenos in with the meat and made patties out of that, they fell apart. i think next time im going to keep a better eye on them for starters and just do them as the recipe states.

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2009
this was really good, i went a little over board with the garlic salt and it was too salty but that was completely my fault. chicken came out tender and juicy, had a nice garlic buttery flavor. served it with mashed potatos and made gravy out of the drippings in the baking dish.

Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2009
i dont know if i did something wrong but i followed the recipe exact and it just tasted like i rolled the chicken breast in bread crumbs. there was no flavor whatsoever. ill read some reviews and adjust the recipe accordingly next time i make this. i think it would be awesome with a few extras done to it, or maybe even a white sauce over it. but as is its pretty bland.

Super-Simple, Super-Spicy Mongolian Beef

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2009
you werent lying when you said super spicy! wooooooooooooow was this hot lol. its definitely full of flavor and ill be making it again but i think im going to cut the red pepper in half or 1/4 even. i added carrots and broccoli to it and used a yellow onion instead of green. really good dish but if your only mildly immune to hot food, cut the peppers dramatically. and to the reviewer that said it was dry and needed more sauce, i dont know what you did wrong but there was plenty of sauce in the pan when i was done with it.

Prosciutto Parmesan Pasta

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2009
way too salty, sauce too thin and prosciutto too overpowering and i only used 1/4 pound as opposed to the half pound it calls for. i used broccoli instead of peas because peas are disgusting (IMO). the broccoli was the only saving grace of this dish. i think ill just stick to Alfredo when i want a white sauced pasta dish.

i even did it wrong and it came out good... needs more bananas though, i love really banana-ey banana bread but this was good especially if you dont have 2 cups worth of overripe bananas laying around lol.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: May 29, 2009
these are probably some of the best sloppy joes ive had. i leave out the green peppers because peppers are nasty, i add about 1/2 tsp worchestershire sauce... everything else i leave as is. hubby really enjoys them too, hes never had a sloppy joe before (australian) and i cant get the canned stuff here, but even when i get back to the states i doubt ill buy manwich anymore. home made is much better.

Crispy Orange Beef

Reviewed: May 7, 2009
this was soooo good... i made it as is except i used minced jar ginger instead of fresh shredded and only used 1tbsp of that as opposed to the 3 of the shredded and fried it in about half a cup of oil in my frying pan... came out perfect. i couldnt stop eating it but i had to save room for cake. definitely a keeper.

Vanilla Crepes

these were incredibly easy to make. was my first time making crepes and they came out perfect. i followed the one reviewers suggestion and used whole eggs instead of just the yolks, but thats all i changed. served them with mixed berries and cream cheese.

Holiday Green Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
oh... my.... god. i cant stop saying it. i made some of this tonight, was a little iffy about the mayo but i put it in anyways, was a little worried about how it would turn out because it smelled really mayonnaisey when i went to put it in the fridge and seemed a little greasy around the edge of the bowl when i went to wipe the edge for a picture. im saving it for dessert tomorrow but i wanted to taste a little bit to see how it turned out.. and HOLY . this stuff is absolutely to die for. that little bit is about to turn into the whole bowl full, but i need to be strong. i did everything exactly how the instructions said, except i dont like pecans so i substituted those for sliced almonds and i added shredded coconut. nothing too drastic that would change the flavor much from the original recipe. its not how i remember the green jello salad being made when i was little (i think it was just pineapple, grapes, coconut and pecans mixed in the lime jello) but its good... much MUCH better than how i had it when i was growing up. definitely keeping this one for years and years.. and im going to share it with anyone that will take it. do NOT let the mayonnaise in it stop you from making this.

Grilled or Fried Skirt Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
really really good and flavorful. marinaded it for about 8 hours or so and started it on the grill and moved it to the cast iron skillet i have as my grill doesnt work all that great... so i just fried it up and it came out really good. definitely making this again and next time im gonna use a bigger hunk of meat because one small steak just wasnt enough for 2 people lol.

Easy Homemade Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
FINALLY... a chili recipe i can use and eat lol. ive tried 2 other chili recipes off this site, made one as is and it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hot. that one got tossed out the window.. the other takes a lot of ingredients and is very time consuming.. i love chili and this was perfect.. i added 2 cans of tomato sauce instead of 1 and 1 of stewed tomatos as im not a fan of tomato bits.. (ewww), and 2 cans of beans... thought it was a little on the watery side but thats an easy fix for next time.. i also did add a little bit more garlic and chili powder than a pinch.. just seemed to me that a pinch wouldnt be enough to season it all.. and also threw in some ground cumin seed because it felt like it was missing something.. that did the trick.. put some doritos (no fritos in australia), cheese and sour cream on top and it was absolutely delicious.. who cares if its only a starter recipe.. it beats going to the store, paying all that money for all the ingredients to make a "better chili" only to find out that its insanely hot and you cant even eat it so it just goes to waste.. gives me something to toy with to make it even better.. so you get 5 stars from me for giving me an awesome base... i normally just used those carrol shelby packets but those arent sold in australia either lol so ive spent the last year and a half trying to find a decent chili recipe that i could mess around with to suit my tastes. this one is definitely it

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
used this tonight on my anniversary dinner steaks... not very often i get to have a new york strip because they're just so expensive and i wanted it to be full of flavor without having to use steak sauce.... this did the trick. used jar minced garlic instead of dried mince garlic... and i whisked it instead of using the blender.. only let it marinade for 2.5 hours roughly and brushed some on when grilling... very very yummy. definitely using this again in the future.. and it smells incredible

Beefy Chinese Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2009
made these tonight with only a few minor modifications. used ground turkey instead of beef, added a little mince garlic and mince ginger to the mixture. boiled them till they were done then made pot stickers out of them.... they were extremely good.. a little time consuming to make and a little frustrating when it came to "shredding" the cabbage lol. but it was very well worth it in the end.. served it with the oriental dipping sauce from another reviewers suggestion and it was so good.. i wont ever have to go to an over priced chinese restaurant to get my dumpling fix again.

Funnel Cakes IV

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
mmmmmmm australia doesnt do funnel cakes so i had to improvise because i absolutely LOVE them.... finally got around to making these tonight and i left the recipe alone and thought it was perfect as written though next time i might try adding some vanilla and cinnamon to the mixture... i did use less flour.. about a cup less i think and that even ended up being too much so i added about a tablespoon extra of milk to thin it out a bit and it was excellent... powder sugar on top and my husband threw some ice cream and chocolate sauce on his. it was his first time ever having a funnel cake and i think its safe to say they left a lasting impression.. he even asked "can we have these every week?" lol

My Country Style Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
i thought it had plenty of flavor, just might not have been what i was feeling on that particular night... was easy to fix and all the ingredients i had on hand... will make again and since i have to be in the mood for the onion soup flavor, ill use brown gravy like one reviewer said. definitely worth keeping and toying with some or leave it as is.. good either way... now ive got to invest in a new frying pan so all the breading doesnt come off when my steak bits are cooking lol. thanks for the recipe.
