Groom's Cake
About this Cook
I was married in July 2007, beautiful. He is great! I have been cooking since I was younger, but now I have to cook every night and am learning more challenging recipes. I am a military wife, which is all in itself a learning experience. I enjoy movies and medical tv shows(the real life ones). I pretty much just love life and all that it throws my way.
My favorite things to cook
I like simple. Stirfry, chili, tacos(anything mexican), casseroles, Italian, fish, steaks, burgers, pretty much whatever we are in the mood to eat. I always try to incorporate vegetables. I plan two weeks ahead and go shopping, if we need fresh veggies or whatnot we make a quick stop. I get ideas off of here and from Rachael Ray and other cooks from the Food Network.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma use to always make us cabbage rolls. It was one of the first meals I made my husband. He had never eaten them before. He absolutely loved them and completely pigged out on them. I told my grandma about it and she felt really special that I remembered eating those at her house all the time and that I wanted to bring that into my home.
My cooking triumphs
Pretty much every time I cook it is a triumph because I always do something a little different. Usually I am successful because I was given good sense and great taste.
My cooking tragedies
When I first got married and was incredible sick. I thought I still had to make dinner and so did my husband. So I just threw a bunch of stuff together in a pot and called it dinner. It looked really bad and tasted as bad as it looked. I think my husband learned then that I should not cook when I am sick and that he should not expect me to!

Banana Crumb Muffins
This is a great recipe! I added cinnamon to the dry mix and crushed pecans to the wet mix. I baked it in a square glass dish for 30 minutes or so. I added the crumb mix the last 15 minutes. It turned out nice and soft.

Restaurant-Style Hashbrown Casserole
This recipe has really good flavor. I peeled and shredded my own potatoes, other that I followed the recipe exactly. I really don't think whoever posted that picture did. It is too fluffy and dry, very decieving compared to what mine looked like. My husband and I just stared at it for a little while wondering if we were going to eat it. It was just this casserole floating in butter...literally!! I suggest using less butter. When the cheese melts it is already going to be greasy, so there is no need for all of that. Other than that the flavor was still good. I read another review where someone broiled it for a few minutes to make it crunchy on top, that sounds really good.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies
I have never made cookies from scratch before these were great!! I didn't have semisweet chocolate chips, so I used left over mini hershey bars from Halloween. I broke them up into chip size pieces. I also added a couple handfuls of chopped pecans and a handful of oatmeal. My husband was staring at me in disbelief as I added the extra ingredients into the chocolate chip cookies I was making him. He doesn't think he is a big fan of nuts. As soon as he tasted the cookies he changed his mind. They were divine. They were so soft and gooey. And the Hershey's made the chocolate nice and chunky. The nuts and oatmeal also made the cookies wonderful. This is a recipe that is going to stay in my book until I have children and I can pass it on to them.
