Slow Cooker Creamed Corn

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2009
This is good as is, BUT I prefer to replace half of the cream cheese with the american cheese. Even if you like this recipe already, try this. It is a nice blend of flavors.

Yellow Squash Patties

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2009
I give this 5 stars, but bear in mind that yellow squash is yellow squash and this isn't a miracle cure, but a very good use of this over abundant ingredient none-the-less. I think the best approach is to mix the squash, onion, s+p and let everything sweat for at least 1/2 hour and then drain. You can get more water out using a cloth and pressing out as much as possible. Squash is such a large part water that you really need to take this step or your patties won't really get crispy and cooked all the way through. By the way I had banana peppers in my garden as well. I minced a couple and tossed them in the mix. Topped with hot sauce it packed a little heat, but wasn't overwhelming. I actually forgot to add the cheese the first time and liked those as well.

Whimpies

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2009
I'm not sure, but I think you have to be from pennsylvania to know what a Whimpie is!! Not unlike a Sloppy Joe a whimpie has a bit more veggies and a nice homemade sauce. I had to deviate a bit when I discovered a lack of ketchup, but not to worry, tomato paste, a little more brown sugar and seasonings and I was all set.

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
Bakery style rolls straight out of the oven! AND they are perfect every time! I made these for college students and they couldn't believe these weren't from the bakery. Definitely make the recipe "as is" first before tweaking this to your taste. I think some of the other reviewers may have a specific taste they are trying to achieve. This recipe is truly top notch as it stands. I like a variety of textures and flavors, so I may adjust this on occasion. Spraying the oven with water is an excellent way to put a nice crust on. But this roll can stand by itself without extra fuss. This recipe may be one of my best all time finds on this site!

Steakhouse Wheat Bread for the Bread Machine

Excellent! No adjustments. I really don't get the negative ratings. Doing this as mini loaves as another reviewer mentioned is a fun presentation. Make some honeybutter and you have a steakhouse hit!

French Dip Sandwiches

This recipe is excellent, I have made this a few times, I honestly think it was best when I made it with a nice lean venison roast. The beef is nice too, remember your cut and quality of meat will effect your results. But all will be good it is simply a matter of good, better, best!

Chicken Dijon

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
As is the recipe is a bit bland, I seasoned my chicken with salt, pepper and thyme before cooking, I added an additional tablespoon of the mustard and used heavy cream. The result was a nice dish everyone liked and the sauce was not overwhelming at all, really a nice compliment to the chicken. I will make this again with these changes.

Cinnamon Popcorn II

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2008
I had great results with this recipe. Paperbag method and all. I did need to use microwave popcorn, but simply microwaved the popcorn and did the sauce part on the stove top.I popped 3 bags of light popcorn to one 7 oz bag of red hots, and kept the remaining ingredients as is. You do need to shake the contents of your bag for a solid minute, but it works out fine.

Applesauce Drop Doughnuts

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
Great time saving recipe! I wanted to make doughnuts for my family, but didn't want the work of a traditional doughnut. I found this recipe and was not disappointed. I used my cookie scoop to drop the doughnuts into my deep fryer, giving me nicely shaped doughnut holes everytime. This recipe makes lots. Our family of 5 has leftovers to look forward to later.

Chocolate Mousse Cake IV

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
Excellent recipe and really fairly simple. I love that it used a boxed mix, sure one can develop cake making into an art, but a mix is so much simpler. The mousse was simple and fantastic. I made this for a church dinner and got rave reviews and my kids and husband are begging for their chance to eat the whole cake and not share!

Caramel Apple Jam

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2008
This recipe tastes great, but I have issues. Understand you are making applesauce into a "jam". So process your apples in your favorite way and then follow this recipe. There are certainly more time and product efficient ways to process apples than dicing them. This has similar flavor to the "All Day Apple Butter" on this site without the all day cooking. Because you are using pectin you are actually gelling the liquid instead of cooking it out,so,I suppose one could call it a jam in stead of apple butter. But- apples have pectin naturally adding pectin just makes it gell faster. I tried this recipe because it sounded interesting, but I doubt I will make it again.

Moist & Delicious! I have made this recipe several times (zucchini season) and I have excellent results every time. I like to use my bundt pan, so I bake it at 350 for 80 minutes. My six year old begs for this recipe on a regular basis.

Garlic Spread

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2008
Surprisingly good. Often the simplest ingredients will yield great results -and this did! I didn't change anything, but did allow it to set at room temp to soften a little before serving. We used this as a spread for crackers, but it would make an excellent bagel spread.

North Carolina-Style Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2008
Excellent! I did the rub, scoring the meat a bit to really get the seasoning in, then let it set. I wanted to have this done when we got home and since I didn't want to leave the grill unattended I made some adjustments. I grilled it for an hour, searing the meat and putting a nice char on it, then I put it in my crockpot. It was perfectly done when I wanted it and had that wonderful smoky flavor- the natural way! I adjusted the sauce to my taste, using less vinegar, salt and peppers adding some cajun seasoning and molasses. The whole result was INCREDIBLE!
