On a perfect afternoon the kids are sleeping, I'm listening to opera and chopping while our favorite Jay's Signature Pizza Crust is gently rising on the counter beside me. On a not so perfect but still good afternoon, my 3 year old son is helping me. My husband and I are Mennonite. My favorite food memories are getting fresh potatoes, corn, and peas out of the garden, cooking them up with some "schmont fat" for the potatoes. For dessert it was saskatoon pie with ice cream. Other traditions were "pluma mouse" which is a cold sweet fruit soup, "rollkuchen"- deep fried dough that is eaten with watermelon and then there was waffles with pudding sauce. All things I still make occasionally. When I became as good a cook as my sister in law...who is great. She's been asking for lots of recipes lately :-) I love it. Max 1000 characters huh?
