My First Pie! GREAT CRUST!
My Very First Pie--Thanks, Penny!!!
My Kind of Dining--Spooky & Romantic
About this Cook
Lucky to live in Pennsylvania Dutch country--the heartiest, most delicious food EVER! You haven't lived until you've had a sticky bun or "slippery" pot pie! Mmmmmmm.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking & baking for my husband and step-son and also my parents, siblings and their families. I love making sweets/desserts but also enjoy just making "regular" meals and trying new recipes--esp. 'appetizers' to take to my ghost club meetings!
My favorite family cooking traditions
The Saturday before Christmas, my mom, sisters, and sisters-in-law get together for "Cookie Day"--where we make hundreds of cookies--some classics and some fancy and some we've never tried before.
My cooking triumphs
Making everyday meals for my family and receiving compliments. Or when someone asks me for a recipe.
My cooking tragedies
The worst was when my best friend was coming home from adoping her daughter in China and I made lasagna for her "Welcome Home" party. I accidentally grabbed the wrong spice container and sprinkled cinnamon on top of the lasagna. I scooped most of it off and since there wasn't that much on there to begin with, figured no one would notice--but THEY DID! If you see "Cinnamon" in a lasagna recipe--AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!! ha.ha.ha.

Old-Fashioned Chocolate Fudge
I'm giving this a "2 star" because it DOES taste delicious---but I followed the recipe to a "T!" and the 'fudge' never got hard .... it's just really hot fudge ... maybe my family can put on ice cream or something--but I'm disappointed considering the time and effort I spent on this recipe. I was exciting thinking about the yummy fudge I would take to our group's meeting--now I have to rush around and make something ELSE. I don't feel I bit off more than I could chew--I've been baking/cooking ever since I was small. I "get it" and this recipe is NOT THAT complicated, but it IS time-consuming. I just feel very let down. Perhaps will this work for others ... but I only recommend it if you're not planning on actually taking this recipe to a function and are prepared for a failure.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
A+ PERFECT as is--don't change a THING! I was hungry for a ginger snap, but I don't like how hard they are. I wanted a big, fat, soft cookie--these fit the bill perfectly!!! OMG--fresh from oven ... pure Heaven! My friend & husband gobbled them UP immediately and RAVED about them! Another winner from allrecipes.com. Thanks for sharing this recipe Amy--you're an angel! Yummmmmmm.

Basic Flaky Pie Crust
Just made my very first pie (used this for the crust and "Apple Crumble Pie" for the filling--RECOMMENDED. I added 1 Tablespoon of sugar to dry ingredients and 1 teaspoon of vinegar to the wet ingredients. LOVELY!! People always say making crust is "so hard" and they buy the store-bought (that's fine--but with this recipe--it's easy and DELICIOSO!!! Yum! Thanks, Stephanie!
