About this Cook
I work as a piano and voice teacher, and music director. Besides playing music, I love reading, going to the gym, cooking for two and exploring the area.
My favorite things to cook
My heritage is largely Italian/Irish, I've lived in southern Spain and traveled a lot, so it's pretty eclectic --- I mostly cook weird Mediterranean-style dishes. I also love making elaborate breakfasts on the weekend with my boyfriend. :) Cooking is one of my favorite ways to unwind..it's pretty common for me to spend most of Sunday in the kitchen. I love it!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother's Italian spaghetti sauce is definitely a tradition...using lots of garlic...mmm. I love Christmas baking with my mom as well!
My cooking triumphs
The day I perfected Spanish Gazpacho...the trick is to blend it for literally 10 minutes, and use almost overripe tomatoes.
My cooking tragedies
I thought adding breadcrumbs to a marinated mushrooms recipe would be a good idea...turns out they just soaked up all the liquid and formed a weird paste....not so hot.

Lentil Soup with Lemon
Delish! I didn't follow this totally as written -- used ginger, curry, cumin, coriander, salt/pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg to season -- no cilantro. Topped with sour cream blended with lemon juice/onion/garlic/coriander/cumin. Yum!!

Jamie's Minestrone
Absolutely fantastic! I added extra garlic, was heavy on the herbs and pepper. Thought the red wine added a nice touch --- I wouldn't leave it out! I used whole wheat penne -- I like the nuttiness and density of the pasta, it holds up quite well in this soup.

Garbanzo Bean Chocolate Cake (Gluten Free!)
These were great! I only had ~1 c choc chips, so I added a fair amount of cocoa powder and a little extra sugar to make up for it. These are great -- very dense and moist. I made mini-cupcakes instead of a big cake - perfect for gatherings!
