Red Rooster

I served in a pitcher liquid style with a block of ice in the center. Therefore the last of it was a bit watered down. Very good. Serve cold and in a cold glass if you can. I had to label it and say it was an adult beverage because kids thought it was Kool Aid! The Martha Stewart scrapbook labels available at Walmart, Michaels, etc. are really cute for labeling pitchers and platters at parties.

Easy and looks great. It was gobbled up. I added some Tony Caschere's creole seasoning because I didn't have Old Bay. You can taste it and add some seasoning before you bake it.

Greek Pizza with Spinach, Feta and Olives

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2009
Great easy "garlic sauce" for a base. You can adjust this recipe to what you have on hand. I used Martha White's crispy pizza crust mix to make the crust. (My kids love this crust.) I also used fresh tomatoes, red onion, green olives, some capers, and frozen spinach that I cooked in the microwave first then drained well. I also added mozzarella cheese with the feta cheese. I added salt and pepper but it was a bit too salty so next time I won't add salt. Enjoy.

This was very good, perhaps the sauce could use a little more butter. If you like this, try Chicken with Lemon Caper Sauce, also on this site. It is to die for.

Very good. I prefer it over the mushroom soup recipe.

Best Beef Dip Ever

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2009
I used a small 2 lb. roast so I cut the sauce ingredients in half, using 2 cups beef broth, one cup water and 1 cup soy sauce. What a mistake. It was sooo salty, I had to dilute it with hot water. Next time I will not use beef broth, just water and soy sauce.

Creamy Dill Cucumber Toasties

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
These were a hit at the baby shower I hosted. I would suggest toasting the bread slices first in the oven to crisp them up (be careful not to burn them) before spreading on the cream cheese mixture. I wouldn't make these too far in advance of your serving time. Also, if I made these again I would put less of the Italian dressing mix as it made the cream cheese mixture extremely salty.

Luscious Slush Punch

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2008
Everybody loves this punch, from kids to adults. It's a great way to sneak some fruit juice into your kids! Since it is a "night before" recipe, my only comment is don't wait until late at night to make it because you have to allow the mixture some time to cool before you put it in the freezer. I made this mistake by making it at midnight for a baby shower at noon the next day. I froze it in two ziplocks and by noon the next day it wasn't quite frozen. The next time I made it I froze it in small plastic containers in the coldest part of the freezer and it froze better.

Gingerbread Men

These are delicious when fresh baked. However I think after a few days in a tightly sealed container on the counter they tasted "cardboardy" and kind of stale. If you make them earlier than your serving date I'd suggest freezing them.

I've made this several times and we always enjoy it. The meat tends to stick to the skillet so you might want to use a non-stick variety if you have one.

Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

This was like chicken parm cut up and tossed with spicy tomatoe sauce. A lot of the breading on the chicken came off when tossing. A lot of work when my family would probably prefer basic chicken parm cutlets with pasta on the side.

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2008
This was okay. The boneless breasts don't have enough fat so it was just kind of like dry shredded chicken in an overly sweet sauce. I used Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce. Maybe less-sweet sauce would be better, along with bone-in chicken pieces or even a whole chicken. You can remove the bones and skin before shredding it. Just a thought...
