KFC Coleslaw - Knock Off

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2012
Phenomenal :) Made this exactly as stated the first round, tried it and loved it. Next time around, I added a half teaspoon of celery seed just because I love that flavor. Leave this sit overnight and the flavor only gets better - completely wonderful - very close to KFC. Great job Baking Nana! Thank you!

The longer I cooked it, the better it got. Great flavor, so simple my three year old could do it, and a great, great time saver. Delicious!

Almond Gelatin

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
This is different from anything I've ever tried before so it took a bit of "getting used to." That being said, this is a wonderful, quick, light dessert and would be perfect on a hot summer day. I didn't have any fruit cocktail to serve with it as the recipe stated, but I did substitute a bit of thinned out raspberry jam, which was wonderful with the prominent almond flavor. All in all, great little dessert and very please with the results.

Five Star Venison Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
Not bad - it needs a little "zing" to brighten it up a bit though. I'll make this again because its super easy and flavorful (minus peas and Brussels sprouts), but perhaps add a bit of cayenne or some jalapenos just to get a little kick and wake to up a bit.

Six-Layer Coconut Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
This is a very lovely cake. The only thing I changed was that I added a package of frozen coconut to the cake batter because I wanted that super prominent coconut flavor - otherwise everything was the same. That being said - I think it would be just as wonderful without the coconut as well. The texture is great and the moisture level is perfect. I can't wait to make this again.

Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2012
For someone that doesn't usually like this type of dish, this was pretty good! The seasoning was just right to compliment the squash and sweet potato flavors and gave it that nice, Fall-ish feel. It won't be a regular at our house, but cold Fall days and Thanksgiving are definitely possibilities.

Just like my Grams' frosting! Reminds me of her and all her baking wonders. Perfect icing, especially for soft, white and almond flavored cakes.

Not sure what I did wrong but mine did not get crackly like the photos, but it doesn't matter to me because these things are so good! I will definitely be making these again. Thanks AMY1028!

Vidalia Sweet Onion Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
I have to admit, I could not use Vidalia for this recipe as winter is the completely wrong time to be able to find them. However, I did use yellow onions that I sauteed just a bit first to bring out their sweetness and then proceeded with the recipe as stated. Love this stuff - wayyyy too addicting and I could have eaten the whole thing myself. Next time I may follow another reviewer's suggestion and use lower fat mayo to cut down on the oiliness a bit, but it may have been due to a tad bit of overbaking as well. Still, wonderful, wonderful stuff. Thanks Jenn!

Pear and Blue Cheese Pastry Triangles

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
I was a bit leery, but these are so good. I have to admit that I did change one thing - I made filled phyllo triangles out of them instead of just setting the topping on top of a triangle only because I needed these to be really mobile. The taste was wonderful and even my 14 yr. old daughter who is very picky loved these. I do believe I would put more pear in next time though - it did get a bit "drowned out" by the onion and blue cheese, but just by a bit. Perhaps three pears next time instead of two, but still, completely awesome recipe. Thanks Scarlett!

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2011
Can't believe I haven't left a review for this yet! I made this while camping with my sister and her family and it was a huge, huge hit. Nothing was left in the bowl by the end of the afternoon and it was absolutely fantastic. I'm making it again for New Year's day at our get-together and honestly, I can't wait to get my hands on it! Great stuff to be sure. Thanks Ann!!!

Saltine Toffee Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
Love, love, love that this recipe is so simple, easy, and quick to prepare. I'm going to try it without the crackers, though, as I think it sort of detracted from the taste rather than adding to it. But it was still good and I will make this again.

Easy Guacamole

Simple, quick, easy, delicious! Made it as stated first, loved it, and then added a bit of chopped up pickled jalapenos and loved it even more. But it definitely is a five star standing on its own as well. Yum!

All Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2011
This is a wonderful recipe - so easy and tastes fantastic. The only thing I did differently was to cook it a bit longer (was in slow cooker for 14 hours, then with lid cocked for another four) because I like the super concentrated, rich, dark brown color. I also don't like lumps, so I gave it a spin in the blender before cocking the lid to let it cook down. No changes to the recipe ingredients though - super fantastic stuff! I will definitely be adding this to my fall recipe collection and will make it time and time again. Thanks, Terri, for the wonderful recipe!

Homemade Laundry Soap

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2011
This stuff is fantastic - I will be using this exclusively from now on! I tried it first on my kitchen towels and thought, "If it can get these smelling and feeling clean, then I'm sold!" Not only did it get the towels clean, but the rest of the laundry smelled and looked fantastic. I am, indeed, sold! Thanks Baking Nana!

Blooming Onion and Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2011
So here's the thing - if a recipe can stand up to being royally screwed up by two teenage girls, it gets a five star rating from me!!! :) This recipe is awesome and I will absolutely use it again and again. We had all the right ingredients, just mixed all together and it STILL worked out fabulous and tasted even better. Very close to my favorite appy at TL steakhouse; definitely close enough to keep me making it over and over again! Thanks for sharing, Jackie!!!!
