About this Cook
I work full time at a university but my schedule revolves around food. I am an avid eater who checks food blogs and allrecipes.com with my daily bowl of oats n' fixings.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making unique hors d'oeuvres for family/friend gatherings and having them guessing the recipe. My biggest hit to date has been with baking though - cookies, breads and muffins! I love using fresh local produce from the Farmer's Market to cook and bake!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was a pot stirrer for a long while before my mom got me to work on the chopping block. My mom being the main cook for the family, I like helping her with little tasks here and there and keeping an eye on things. It gives her a peace of mind.
My cooking triumphs
I once made shrimp stirfry over rice for my dad. It was the summer after first year of university when I lived away from home. He was very impressed! When I went home for Christmas in 2008, I made a pumpkin roll for my family with cream cheese icing. My brother devoured it and asked me to make some extra icing before I leave so he could eat it on its own.
My cooking tragedies
My friends and I were feeling adventurous one day and decided to make peach cobbler. I was in charge of dry ingredients and I thought baking soda and baking powder were the same things...the peach cobbler came out a bit too soggy and I had to fess up that I didn't know the difference between the two! Another time, I microwaved an egg because I didn't have time to hard boil it. I forgot about it and my mom opened the microwave and not knowing that it had been microwaved, she poked it with a fork and it splattered all over her face. Now that was too funny to be a tragedy!

Amish Macaroni Salad
Good salad - I would cut back on miracle whip (mayo substitute) and sugar too, but it was great!

Mom's Zucchini Bread
Awesome! I used 2 cup sugar, used 1 cup whole wheat flour and 2 cups white flour, and didn't have walnuts to put in...but the little muffins turned out great! I put them in for 20 mins at 350 degrees. They look lovely and taste lovely! People who don't even like zucchinis keep digging these! Thanks for the recipe! :D UPDATE: My boyfriend LOOOOVES these! Made some more with zucchinis from the local farmer's market, coarsely grated with a cheese grater. So good & it looks very very pretty with strips of green zucchinis. I will try to substitute oil with applesauce next time. Thanks!

Lentil Soup
This was pretty good lentil soup, although not the best. I did substitute water with chicken stock and add extra veggies as well as cumin. I was missing basil though, so maybe that does the trick. I'll try making it again. I froze a ziplock bag of it in the freezer and I hope it stays well.
