I am a high school student in Canada who is currently planning on opening up her own small cafe in Vancouver (eventually... probably, hopefully, after university). I am decent at cooking, basically just give me a recipe and I'll take a wack at it. I have been cooking since the age of 6, so about 10 years give or take, because as a kid I was so picky that I couldn't (yes, COULDN'T) stomache my mum's food. To avoid her cooking differently for me, my dad taught me how to cook my own meals. Now I know the kitchen like the back of my hand and even help out with the big important (holiday) dinners. Also, I am a vegetarian, so I like to try out new vegetable options and high protein meals.
My favorite things to cook
Bread, cookies, bars, drinks, candy, fudge, anything sweet basically. Also, unique meal ideas, and vegetarian and vegan options.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday baking, especially Christmas cookies :)
My cooking triumphs
Over the years I have messed about in the kitchen, addapting my mum's Banana Nut Bread recipe to add cranberries, bran, apples, raisins, applesauce and basically anything else we have in the kitchen and i feel like adding. I make them into energy muffins, or add coffee to make them breakfast biscuits. I am quite proud of them, and any who try them love them :)
My cooking tragedies
Christmas '06... as christmas gifts to my friends I tried to make boxes of cookies and succeeded for the most part... then I tried to make the chocolate pretzels. They were completely from scratch, the recipe called for no milk or water or any liquid aside from the egg; the dough was so dry it was practically sucking the moisture out of the fridge when I refrigerated it. To make matters worse, when i was decorating the box for my boyfriend's mum I dropped it shattering every single one of the pretzels and sending fragments amongst the other cookies with them... completely disasterous....
