I used to make these as a child. I don't remember if I got the recipe out of class for a food/craft day, or if I found them in one of my children's cookbooks. Either way, they're easy to throw together and fun for children because they look like a pile of twigs. you could even use chocolate instead of butterscotch on Halloween to create creepy muddy bones (obviously use melted white chocolate and 'paint' the 'bones').
They're so easy to make, nice and cruncy, and they keep for a long time. I like to make them and shove them in a jar, or give them out to people. It's kind of a funny little recipe that you look at and think, "Wow, that's boring," but really, it's a nice treat when you don't want to bake anything spectacular.
