About this Cook
I am a college student that loves to cook and bake whenever I can. Playing ports, travel, warm weather, the beach, the mountains, hiking, boating, and a good movie are just a few things I really enjoy in my free time! I'm a big fan of the food network channel and I probably have the biggest sweet tooth out of anyone you'll meet. I have big dreams of somehow utilizing my love of food, eagerness to try every recipe that is out there and love of just being in a kitchen baking and cooking..maybe culinary school after college!
My favorite things to cook
Baking is probably my main skill probably because of my hankering for sweets. A warm, rich, chocolaty brownie or chocolate chip cookie, cupcakes with lot's of buttercream frosting on top, or a big slice of cake really just hits the spot for me. Breakfast/Brunch is one of my favorite meals to entertain for because I think it's versatile and there's endless recipes to enjoy (I can cook some amazing scrambled eggs . I like to add a sharp shredded cheddar or swiss and fresh parsley and serve over toasted rosemary bread..it is one of my favorite things to make for Sunday brunch).
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a Southern background and we tend to do the holidays right by working hard in the kitchen preparing for a big feast. Food in general is a big part of my family and are easily excited over new recipes and even new kitchen gadgets and attempting to out-do ourselves every year for various occasions. We have a real appreciation for good food with a lot of flavor.
My cooking triumphs
This past Christmas dinner...I made the whole meal! I attempted Tyler Florence's rosemary and thyme sauteed leek and dried cranberry stuffed turkey breast that was seared and then finished off in the oven which came out unbelievably good. I also made roasted asparagus, sweet potato souffle, cornbread stuffing, a vinegar pie (which is a southern tradition and my dad's all time favorite pie) and a pumpkin pie.
My cooking tragedies
Two years ago, I was in charge of cooking the green beans for thanksgiving (not a very hard job) and the way my grandmother cooks them is in boiling water over low heat all day long which makes her green beans incredible...So when I tried to make them, I followed her steps exactly. The beans came out with a perfect texture but were SO SALTY! I added way too much salt at the beginning of when the beans were cooking. I was pretty embarrassed.

Oatmeal Carmelitas
Doubled the recipe for a 13x9 pan. Used Nestle's La Lechera dulce de leche which is dulce de leche in a squeeze bottle found in the latin american section of the grocery store (I found mine in food lion)..turned out FABULOUS, RICH AND CREAMY. Taking this to a Carolina Gamecock football tailgate tomorrow...I KNOW people will gobble these up. Can't wait to share them with everybody!

Best Brownies
I used special dark cocoa and these brownies came out so rich and decadent. Chocolate buttercream frosting on top really polished them off too. I took them to a dinner party tonight and there wasn't a crumb left. Not too overly fudgy..but just right. Needless to say, they were divine and would satisfy any chocolate craving.
