New Vegan on the Block...

From my cold dead hand is how I thought they would pry my steak knife free, but here I am on day 3 of a vegan diet and I feel pretty good. No meat withdrawals. No crankiness, even though I have eaten out twice and watched my dining partners eat favorites of mine. I was completely happy with my pasta with veggies in a tomato sauce (not totally vegan, pasta is made with egg) and fairly pleased with my portabello burger (not totally vegan, there was cheese on it and the aoli had egg in it). I guess what I am getting at is I am not going to ruin a perfectly nice afternoon out by throwing a tantrum if the restaurant doesn't cater to vegans, I am just going to do my best to be better to my body.
So far one of my favorite items is Kookie Karma, the cherry cashew is the best way to spend 270 calories...what is an extra 1/2 mile on the treadmill?! Grassroots in South Pasadena is a great lunch spot, I love the smoked tofu bowl. Whole Soy Yogurt is so close to the real thing that I don't know that I taste a difference (though it has been a long time since I have had real yogurt...I am lactose intolerant). I have put down the Diet Coke can and started drinking GT's Kombucha, a fermented tea/juice concoction that supports digestion, metabolism, appetite control and liver function to name a few. This drink is not for the faint of heart though...it tastes like vinegar and the spore that floats in it (the most nutritious part) looks a little like snot. I am still just getting into this, I will blog more product and recipe reviews as I go.
