About this Cook
Married with 2 young sons. I have a college degree and have worked various jobs on college campuses. Now I am a household manager! I genuinely enjoy grocery shopping: what a luxury! This summer our garden includes tomatoes, eggplant, cabbage, spinach, peas, herbs, peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, gourds.
My favorite things to cook
Satisfying, healthy meals for my family; baking cookies, cakes, muffins; learning new and healthy ways to serve vegetables
My favorite family cooking traditions
Iced sugar cookies at Christmas; sausage/cornbread stuffing at Thanksgiving; canning/preserving tomato sauce and fruit jams; Hoppin' John soup for New Year's
My cooking triumphs
Hearing real gratitude from my husband and boys for the meals I serve; having my cherry pie sell for $100 at our church's fancy dessert auction; hearing my mother and mother-in-law compliment my cooking
My cooking tragedies
Making fresh tomato soup with tomatoes from my garden: when I poured it into the blender, I had forgotten the screw on the bottom, so the hot soup went right through and mostly down the drain. (At least I was holding it over the sink!)

The Best Bean and Ham Soup
My family truly enjoyed this soup. Lots of flavor w/ a bit of spice. Taste before you add salt, as V8, ham and broth gave it plenty of saltiness for us. I made this in about 4 hours without having soaked beans overnight. I'm not sure why you'd need the all-day cook time as written.

Barley Primavera
Good idea, as I enjoy barley, but needs much more flavor.

Waldorf Cabbage Salad
Lemon juice on the apples was someone's good suggestion for this recipe. Fresh apples and the mild crunchy cabbage together were just what my body seemed to need tonight. My 7-year-old even said, "For some reason, I like this salad."
