Chicken in Onion and Mustard Sauce

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
Made this for supper the other night and already had the chicken cooking when I realized I didn't have any applesauce. I used peanut butter instead and hoped for the best. It still turned out pretty good but I can imagine it with the applesauce, mellow and sweet. I also added a small can of sliced mushrooms to it. I will make it again, with or without the applesauce!

Sugar Cream Pie I

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
I'm a born and raised Texan, never heard of this pie, but I was looking for some different pie recipes and decided to give this a whirl. My kids now beg for it. I've made it twice, once with regular milk and once with heavy cream-I never have half-n-half. The richer the milk the better the pie, that's all I have to say. It was good with regular milk, but with the cream it was incredibly rich and creamy, and almost like a great chocolate mousse if it were vanilla instead of chocolate.

Banoffee Pavlova

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2009
Tried this and loved the banoffee part but hate the meingue. The recipe worked wonderfully but no one in my family likes the meringue shell. Will probably try again with a puff pastry shell instead.

Ambrosia Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2009
This was incredible. Going by other reviews that said the cake was dry, I decreased the flour - and the cake was so moist that I couldn't get it out of the pan. There's not enough liquid in the filling, which would make it "crunchy", so I added about 1 Tbsp of water. I also didn't have anything orange on hand except extract, so I used 1/2 tsp of that and water to make 1 Tbsp. I didn't let the frosting cool enough so it was runny when I put it on the cake, but it did thicken up nicely. If it's not thick enough, keep beating it - it'll get there. This is appropriately named; it tastes like a little piece of heaven.

Grandma's Pear Preserves

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
This is awful. It only got one star because that's the least I can do. I've been trying to find a pear preserve recipe like my grandma made, and this is definitely not it. I reduced the sugar by 3 cups and the water by 1/2. I still ended up with soup - WAY to much syrup with a few bits of pears floating in it. It set fine though; try using dry pectin not liquid. Will NOT try this one again.

Banoffee

Awesome! I didn't put as much ginger in the crust, but will use a little more next time. Had no problem with cooking the milk, came out gorgeous! Will definitely make again.

Lori's Famous Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
I made these for me and my husband. We weren't expecting anything great; I've tried several of these recipes over the past couple of years and they've all been so bad we ate something else for supper. So we were pleasantly surprised at how good these came out. I used a stalk of celery instead of the bell pepper since my husband doesn't like it. I think it would have been absolutley divine with the bell pepper - next time I might mince it very fine and sneak it in and see if he notices. Awesome recipe! Will definitely add it to my permanent, make frequently recipes! Thanks!

Soft Molasses Cookies V

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
I've been looking for a really good Molasses cookie recipe since Grandma's quit making them - 7 years. This is not a perfect match, but with a little tweaking it was. Increased molasses to a full cup and added an extra 1/2 C flour so it wasn't too runny, iced with a simple powdered sugar glaze. Perfect! Awesome! Thanks!! They were so good that a double batch didn't make it through the night-my kids inhaled them!

Amish Bob And Andy Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2009
This come out pretty good, but I did make some adjustments. It's very similar to my chess pie recipe and I knew that the 45 minutes wouldn't be enough time in the oven, so I lowered the oven to 300 and cooked it for 1 1/2 hours, the way my chess pie is done, and it came out beautifully. A 9" deep dish pie crust held it all nicely. For those who have had a problem with spilling the filling on the way to the oven; put the crust on a cookie sheet, set it on the oven rack and then pour the filling in, slide the rackin carefully. This prevents spills and catches any cook-over mess in the oven. This pie was very good, but I won't make it again. The taste is very, very close to a pumpkin pie - and I don't like pumpkin pie.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: May 23, 2008
This was the brownie recipe that I've been looking for for a long time. Unbelievably good! Unfortunately I son't be making them again since they gave DH the worst heartburn that he's ever had in his life.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2007
This was very good. I'd been looking for a creamy cheescake and this fit the bill. I understand now why this is a good basic cheesecake; the other recipe I make has a better flavor but this one has the right texture, but if you put any kind of topping on this, you can't go wrong. Will definitely make this again.

Pupu Balls

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2007
This was pretty good. I had problems keeping all the onion in the meatballs, though. I also made them a little bigger and we had it as a main course, not appetizer. All in all it was okay. I might make it again if DH's not home - I forgot the only way he likes his meatballs is in sauce on top of spaghetti.

Chocolate Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
This is very good, just what I've been looking for. I usually make a cream pie so I'm used to a lot more filling and meringue. Next time I'll double the recipe which will take care of both problems for me. Definitely a keeper!

Creamiest Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
Oh my goodness! I've been looking for a good recipe for rice pudding for years. The only person I've ever known that can make it is my aunt, and she won't give me her recipe. I bought the that cozy shack tries to pass off as rice pudding once, and never again. I made this last night, using the tips from others, and this is absolutely the best rice pudding I've ever had in my life. DH had never had any at all and finished off everything left in the pan tonight! This is definitely one that I'll make again. I even went and bought cinnamon stick today to try it that way! Thanks!

Authentic Mexican Tortillas

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
I have had "authentic Mexican tortillas" before, made at Mama Luna's house for a huge cookout. She making them wile the men were outside grilling. Whatever it is that this recipe makes, it's not tortillas. It really does taste like fried pie dough. Even the dough looks like pie dough, not soft the way it's supposed to. I didn't even make it all. I will never make this again! If you want a recipe for tortillas, keep looking. This isn't it.
