About this Cook
I'm a senior at UCLA. I work as a tutor and tutor supervisor, and I will begin as an Assurance Associate at Grant Thornton in August. I have a boyfriend of almost seven years, who is a very good cook (but unfortunately does not like most baked goods). I LOVE baking, but most of the stuff I bake has too much fat and calories for my diet. The oven at my apartment sucks, but I bake when I go home on weekends and bring it back for my friends and students. I've been baking since I was a kid and have begun to cook more often in the past couple of years. I've been using allrecipes for a few years now, but I just recently made a profile.
My favorite things to cook
I love making any baked goods: cookies, cakes, cheesecakes, breads, muffins, etc. I also really enjoy cooking Mexican and Italian food...I just wish they were healthier.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was a kid, I would always help my sister make iced butter cookies before Christmas. That's how I fell in love with baking. I've been making them on my own for several years now, and I have expanded the tradition to include multiple baked goods. I start as soon as I get out of school for winter break and continue right up until Christmas Eve. It's great! :D
My cooking triumphs
I make really yummy cookies and cakes of all kinds. I've experimented a lot with finding healthier baking alternatives (lower fat & lower sugar). I think I have mastered the art of making baklava. I also make fantastic pancakes and an awesome grilled cheese.
My cooking tragedies
While trying to make low-sugar Snickerdoodles, I ended up with a sort of a Snickerdoodle roll. They taste pretty good and my dad really likes them, but I still haven't been able to get the right texture and taste.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles
I use this recipe all the time, and everyone loves it! I will sometimes use all shortening and no butter (I think it's good either way) and bake 7 or 8 min for soft cookies. I'll bake them for 9 or 10 and leave the cookies on the sheet for a minute after if I want them more crispy. I also improvise with the cinnamon-sugar mixture and shake the dough in snack or sandwich bags thoroughly coat it without getting my hands sticky. I also find it faster to use a small ice cream scoop and make all of the balls at once before shaking them in the cinnamon-sugar. I DEFINITELY recommend this recipe. I'll never use another (unless I manage to get the Diddy Reese recipe).

Spanish Rice I
I was looking for an easy Spanish rice recipe that tasted somewhat like my grandmother's. This one had far more liquid, too much for my taste. My family may have liked it better if I added more rice or less tomato juice as it seemed like the other ingredients overpowered the rice. I doubt that I'll make this again.

Eileen's Spicy Gingerbread Men
These turned out great! They're soft and delicious. I was a little worried about the spices being too strong, but I followed the recipe exactly and used unsulfered molasses, and the spices were perfect. I was just going to make these for the kids in my family but I have a feeling everyone will be enjoying them. I got about 36 cookies out of one batch.
