About this Cook
I joined this site because all my children are grown and married and I have nobody left at home to cook for. I need some new recipes, because I may be a really good cook but I'm tired of it all. I really enjoy cooking for others who appreciate it but just for myself seems like a chore.
My favorite things to cook
Turkey dinners with the whole family in attendance. I thrive on the drooling expectant faces and the "Is it ready yet? I'm starving here"! The parade of people coming into the kitchen to "taste test" as they always do. The happy faces at the supper table are my favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade huckleberry pancakes done on the griddle on the barbecue at the annual, family reunion camp-out. We call it "The Last Breakfast".
My cooking triumphs
The ultimate turkey dressing. Great gravy EVERY time. Perfect won ton filling.
My cooking tragedies
Now, who in their right mind would enter something here, right in the middle of good recipes??

Dobos Torte
This torte is absolutely delicious. However, the recipe calls for icing sugar in the buttercream. The original recipe uses a cooked sugar syrup and egg yolks. I would give this one 5 stars had it not been named "Dobos".

Chocolate Buttercream
This "frosting" is very good but is not the original for this torte. The original "buttercream" uses a cooked sugar/water syrup, sweet butter, bitter chocolate and egg yolks. Vanilla and dark rum were added to make the flavor unique. One must try it to appreciate the "Swiss Chocolate" creamy texture and flavor. I submitted the recipe on 15/01/07 but it is still waiting for review.
