About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake cakes, cookies, pies-- anything sweet!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My younger siblings and I were crazy about chili cheese dip when we were little. Not much cooking involved, really, but we still have some form of cheesy dip at almost every party. My family really likes the sausage cheese balls I make, so I often make them for our get-togethers.
My cooking triumphs
I'm very picky about chicken alfredo, but if I do say so myself, it's pretty good when I make it. My family always seems to enjoy it too. It's one of the few things I don't mind eating as a leftover!
My cooking tragedies
Oh, there have been several. I'm not a naturally talented cook by any definition of the word, but I do give it my best. I once used sweetened condensed milk (bought it by accident instead of evaporated milk) and Splenda (was out of white sugar) in a pumpkin pie. On top of that, the crust burned. I wouldn't even taste it, but I'm sure it was awful!

Basil Tomato Soup
I'm not sure about this soup. I really wanted to like it, but once I finished making it, it mostly tasted like tomato paste. However, I used dried basil instead of fresh, half-and-half instead of whipping cream, and 3 tbsp. of butter based on previous reviews-- maybe my changes messed it up. Either way, I had to add two more teaspoons of sugar, ample amount of salt and pepper, garlic powder, and more basil to get it to be palatable at all. Still not crazy about it. I think I'll look for another recipe, but thanks for posting this one!

Mashed Potato Hot Dish
This was a staple in my house growing up, but sans green beans. I sometimes include them and sometimes leave them out if I'm feeling particularly naughty. (What can I say? Not a big fan of vegetables in general.) Like others have mentioned, you'll probably want to spice up the beef a bit. I use minced garlic and cayenne pepper and sometimes chopped onion. I like serving this with baked beans if not using the green beans. Eating a spoonful of baked beans along with the meat and potato pie is a great combination of tastes.

Hot Cocoa Mix
This was pretty good. I made it last year to give out at Christmas in small decorated jars. I printed directions to make one cup on small squares of card stock, punched a hole in one corner of the square, and tied it to the lid with pretty red ribbon. I used cinnamon creamer and added a little Nesquik as another reviewer suggested. My mother-in-law said it tasted better when heated with milk instead of water.
