I am a teacher-turned-stay-at-home-mom who cooks every night for my husband and two boys, 4 and 18 mos. I love to cook and bake and am always looking for great new recipe ideas for babies, toddlers and children.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make homemade baby food, and anything that looks cool, tastes great and continues to be requested by my sons.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is what I would call an All-American Mom Cook. We had meat, a starch, and a veggie at every dinner. I loved watching her make everything from memory. She never used cookbooks. I use them constantly.
My cooking triumphs
My brother-in-law thinks that I am the best cook ever (or leads me to believe I am). It's a great way to make me cook and bake for him as often as possible. But perhaps my biggest triumph was when my 4-year-old explained to my husband what the difference was between a liquid and dry measuring cup.
My cooking tragedies
I decided to bake my older son's birthday cake one year. He wanted a frog cake, so I chose to use a Pyrex bowl to create a 3-D type of frog, complete with sugar cookie legs and a fruit rollup tongue. The result was the most scary-looking alien thing that had me wishing I had stuck to cupcakes. That cake is still the butt of some good jokes a few years later.
