Pull-Apart Hot Cross Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2012
hands down the best hot cross buns i've ever had..."Strong words," my husband said. But even he agreed these were fabulous! Wouldn't change a thing!! Thank you!

Soft Garlic Breadsticks

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2012
these were just OK. They're easy to make, but IMHO, not worth the effort. They simply don't taste of anything; no garlic flavor, not salty, not cheesy, just bready. Probably won't bother again. Oh, and the timing is WAY off on these. How can they be ready in 50 minutes when just to rise and bake takes an hour?

Cod Curry

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2012
fantastic recipe! I do a lot of Indian cooking, so had all the ingredients (except the fish) on hand; the recipe whips up in a flash then simmers away, blending, until you're ready to eat---perfect! My husband loved this; i served it with warm naan bread, steamed spinach, and store-bought vegetable samosas with tamarind chutney.

Onion Quiche

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2012
with the addition of another egg, this turned out perfect, but it was too sweet for our tastes. Might cut down on the onions a bit, try different veggies, use some garlic, more salt / pepper, different cheese...not sure what, but need to change something. I cannot fault the results tho, just how it tastes (to us, anyway). Will definitely make again, with a few changes---thanks!

Seven Layer Tortilla Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2012
this was very very good! i added an envelope of taco seasoning split between the two bean mixtures, and used a tin of vegetarian refried beans instead of mashing pinto beans. I used a drained tin of Ro-Tel tomatoes with lime and cilantro instead of fresh tomatoes, and used a lot more cheese---we're cheese lovers at our house! I thought the suggestion of a springform pan was very clever, so i did that and it came out terrific; would give 4.5 stars if i could, with 1/2 a star off for being a bit stodgy. Still delicious, filling, and easy! Thank you!

Mozzarella Basil Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2012
fantastic bread! like many people on here, i ended up using nearly 6 cups of flour by the time it was done, but the end result is a chewy, light, flavorful bread that my husband and i loved! i used frozen basil from last year's garden; made it a bit more special (well, for us, anyway!)

Toads in the Hole I

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2012
my English husband loved this, but i changed the directions slightly to cook it the way his mum does in England: after browning the sausages, pour about 3tbsp peanut or canola oil into the pan along with the sausages (make sure it's oven proof) and place it in the preheated oven until the oil is smoking hot; pour the batter over the sausages and quickly place the pan back into the hot oven, bake as directed (altho mine took 40 minutes to be cooked properly). We served with Colcannon (from this site) and onion gravy. My husband raved!

Thai Green Curry Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2012
there's no denying that this is very tasty...but it is not Thai. I think next time i will double the fish sauce and add a hearty amount of fresh lime juice along with the cilantro at the end, and maybe cut down on the coconut milk a bit.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
this was glorious in its simplicity---so easy and so delicious; i added about 3/4 cup of chicken broth at the bottom and some sliced onion, strained it after the turkey was done and it made magnificent gravy. Thank you for this recipe!

McCormick® Gingerbread Men Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2011
these turned out so great! i doubled the spices as we like our gingerbread spicy, and they're delicious. These were the first roll-out / cut-out cookies i've ever made, and they turned out fabulous---i figured out to roll the dough when it is still cool between two sheets of parchment paper: easy peasy! Thank you!

Easy Lemon Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2011
these were fairly good. As someone said, they tasted of fake lemon; next time i think i would add some fresh lemon juice and lemon zest. My cookies took 10 minutes to cook; the first batch was raw after 8 minutes and ended up in the trash.

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2011
a lovely bread/cake as is, but needed double the spices to get a true gingerbread flavour for me. I made my version (a little bit more) diabetic-friendly by substituting Splenda granulated for the sugar, applesauce for the butter, and EggBeaters for the egg. Came out heavy, dense, moist and rich---my favourite kind of gingerbread!!! Thank you!

Cranberry Nut Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2011
this is lovely bread---i added some vanilla and almond extract, and used almonds in place of walnuts. I sprinkled some raw sugar on top and it came out wonderfully. I didn't bother to chop the cranberries---like little bursts of flavor; terrific! thanks for the recipe!! EDIT: to add that i made mine using granulated Splenda and Egg Beaters---worked great!

Cranberry Almond Biscotti

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
i have tried several biscotti recipes from this site with varying degrees of success (from dismal failure to kind of edible) but these are the business! they are easy to make, delicious to eat, and turn out like a proper biscotti! i substituted 3/4 cup of Splenda for sugar, and added 5 drops of Almond Oil in addition to the almond extract---they are terrific! thank you for a wonderful recipe!!

Six Can Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
this is a great, easy soup but it needed a bit of dressing-up! i followed others' suggestions and added a can of cream of chicken soup (in lieu of one can of broth), some cumin, garlic, Adobo seasoning, and black pepper. Served it with shredded cheese, and warm, homemade cornbread---fantastic!!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

this is flavorful enough, but nothing special, i'm sorry to say...my mum used to make loads of pumpkin bread every holiday season and hers had a completely different texture and richer flavor. Sadly, she didn't give me the recipe before she passed away. The search for Mum's Pumpkin Bread continues.

Dutch Apple Pie with Oatmeal Streusel

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2011
the spicing and flavor of the filling and the crumble top is perfect (i used 1/3 cup of Splenda in the filling and 1/2 cup Splenda Brown in the crumble and omitted the rest of the sugar), but i don't see the purpose of the crust; i'll stick to making apple crisp. Still, if you're looking specifically for a pie, this one's a winner.
