About this Cook
I am a graphic designer based in New York. (www.butterjam.com) I love cooking, baking and experimenting with different recipes. It's a source of stress relief from a long day in front of the computer. Cooking takes my mind off things and allows me to work with my hands.
My favorite things to cook
cookies, pies and cakes for my sweet-toothed boyfriend, steamed fish and chicken for asian dishes, lasagna, casseroles, baking bread for those cold autumn and winter nights, comfort foods, healthy meals
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom eats and cooks healthy. Low-sodium, low fat, steaming food instead of stir fry.
My cooking triumphs
Every time I try something new and it comes out well, I feel victory. My most memorable moment recently was successfully baking a Crumb Apple pie.
My cooking tragedies
I tried using my own concoction for marinating steamed chicken. It came out too salty and too garlicky. =(

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings
Very yummy. I combined several reviewers' comments. I used 2 cans of condensed cream of chicken soup, replaced water with chicken broth (1 can), and I added 2 small cans (8.25 oz) of mixed veggies, making sure to drain it before adding them to the pot, and just 1 pkg of the refrigerator biscuits. I had my slow cooker on high for 5 hours and I added the dumplings after 3 hours (2 more hours left to cook). It was delicious. =) Chicken was tender, soup was just the right consistency.

Chicken Soup
I was sick with a cold and really wanted homemade soup, no canned! This was quick and easy to make, warm and yummy. I stir fried my cubed chicken with some olive oil and salt for taste. I omitted the zucchini, and added a few chopped red potatoes and also added egg noodles, with salt and pepper to taste at the end. Next time I will probably add celery.

Slow Cooker Pepper Steak
Mine came out a bit too salty. I think 2 tbsps of soy sauce is probably enough. I read other reviews and didn't put the peppers in until the last hour.
