Tart Lemon Ice Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2008
Oh yeah, this is the best lemon ice cream I'm sure I'll ever eat!! Instead of using a food processor, I grated the lemon zest on a hand grater. Much easier. I used the juice and zest from two lemons, and it was perfect. It was so good, in fact, that I didn't share with my family! They'll have to make their own ice cream...

Mom's Rum Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
Thanks Laura for sharing your Mom's very tasty rum cake! I mistakenly added the rum glaze to the bottom of the cake instead of the top. When I turned the cake upright onto a platter, I realized my mistake. I felt I should redeem myself by making more glaze for the top of the cake or no one would be able to taste the rum. Well, obviously doubling the glaze is not necessarily a bad thing, because I had more compliments on that cake than any other I've ever made! Several friends asked if they could take a slice home. I refrigerated my leftover slice and had it the next morning with my coffee. YUM! I liked it even better when it was cold. Yes, I'll be making this one again.

Grandma's Gingersnap Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
Wow! These chewy spicy cookies were terrific! I followed the recipe closely, but I added 1/2 tsp. of nutmeg for more flavor. I chilled the cookie dough overnight, and they came out soft and chewy after baking. I took them to a church event, and everyone who tried one said they were delicious. Even my fussy son who prefers chocolate chip cookies liked these. He took all the leftover gingersnaps back to college with him. Yum!

Forgotten Party Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
These cookies are an old favorite that I hadn't made in years. I followed the recipe pretty closely, but I added chocolate chips and almond extract to the cookies. I could taste the sweet crunchy flavor and texture of the cookies, but they were really too sweet for me. Next time, I may trying adding sifted cocoa to the recipe to increase the flavor and make it a little less sweet.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
Thanks, Diane, for a delicious apple crisp! I did end up having to increase the butter when I spread the crumbly topping over the apples. Without the extra butter, it would have been too dry. Otherwise, it was very good. I cut the recipe down for just my husband and myself. My husband was very disappointed when he realized I had eaten the leftovers the next day. I guess I'd better make more the next time so we can both have seconds!

Hot Buttered Rum Mix

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
I mixed up the butter and sugars together, and then I added it to the ice cream and froze it tightly in a container. I had already tasted the mixture and I thought it was delicious. I was very surprised when I added it to my coffee, both with and without the rum, and the flavor was very bland. I added more of the mixture to make it sweeter, but I was really disappointed especially after reading all the great reviews. Maybe I should have tried it in cocoa to increase the rich quality of the ice cream. Sorry, but I won't make this again...

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2007
Terrific recipe, Peg! I mixed the bread dough in my bread machine and let it knead and rise and knead a second time. I then divided it into two loaf pans and let it rise again. My husband shared one loaf with his coworkers and they really enjoyed it. I really like the bread toasted, but you'll enjoy it however you choose to eat it!

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2007
Terrific meal! I used plain cream cheese, added black olives, minced garlic, and mushrooms in addition to other ingredients. Softened cream cheese needs to be mixed well with melted butter or it tends to separate. I put chicken breasts in crockpot, covered with sauce, and it only took 2-3 hours on HIGH. The sauce was a little thin, so I may add more cream cheese next time. We ate it with fettucini and steamed broccoli. My husband and I both really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recipe!

Tomato Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2007
Delicious recipe, Alicia! I followed your recipe pretty closely, except at the end when I poured marinara sauce over the chicken and cheese slices. I would suggest using the whole jar of sauce since my husband wanted to mix the extra sauce with the fettucini that I also served. I only baked four chicken breasts, so I had plenty of sauce left over. Great served with steamed broccoli. This is a keeper!

Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2007
This is a terrific recipe and even easier when I mixed it in my bread machine. I followed the rolling out instructions on a cornmeal sprinkled baking sheet. Before baking, I misted the loaves with water for a crispy crust. I omitted the egg wash and sesame seeds. For an even crispier crust, when preheating the oven, I placed a cake pan half full of hot water on the bottom rack. When the oven was preheated, I popped in the bread and baked it normally. The crust was absolutely perfect if you like a soft center and a hard crust. Thanks!

Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies

These were good cookies, but they didn't have quite the flavor I was looking for. Also, they tended to spread while baking.

Ultimate Maple Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2007
Delicious cookies with all the qualities of the perfect cookie--great flavor of cinnamon and maple syrup along with the perfect chewiness to them! I mixed maple syrup with sugar to roll the cookies in and they were very good, but the sugar and syrup tended to clump together making it harder to roll the dough in it. Next time, I'll use a cinnamon/sugar mixture, and I'm sure it'll be just as tasty. Thanks, Linda.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2007
Sinfully rich buttery cookies with just a hint of sweetness! I used my cookie scooper to form balls and came up with about two dozen cookies. I also used strawberry jam which is my favorite flavor. These were so good that my husband and I ate all of these cookies by ourselves. I will make some for the holidays; otherwise, they aren't safe around my house! Great recipe, Dee!

Easy Devonshire Cream

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2007
Delicious recipe! This is similar to a recipe for "French Cream" that was on a Paula Deen show. I mixed together 8 oz. softened cr. cheese with 1 c. powdered sugar till fluffy. Separately mix 1 c. whipping cream with 1/4 c. sugar till soft peaks form. Now mix the cr. cheese mixture with the whipping cream till blended. Optional: add juice of 1 lemon, plus lemon zest. I added about 2 tsp. of bottled lemon juice, and it was wonderful! In fact, I immediately gave the recipe to a couple of friends tonight after serving it over a fresh fruit salad. I will definitely make this again!

Jo's Rosemary Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2007
You've got a terrific recipe here, Jo! I didn't change a thing except to increase the ingredients by 1/2 to make a larger loaf. I mixed it in my bread machine, then rolled out dough onto countertop dusted with cornmeal and rolled it into a rectangle. Starting with short end, roll up like a jelly roll. Brush exposed dough with more cornmeal, and place on cookie sheet, tucking both ends underneath. Cover with cloth, and let rise for 40-50 minutes in a warm room. In preheated oven (375 degrees), place pan of water on bottom rack. This will give you a crispy crust! Bake bread 15 - 20 minutes. Can be eaten plain or dipped in olive oil! I took it to my church, and it was eaten up right away with lots of compliments. Thanks again, Jo!

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2007
Absolutely the best chocolate chip cookie that I've ever had! More like a very rich brownie than the traditional choc. chip cookie though. I used regular salt instead of kosher salt, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly as written. The guys in my husbands' fire station ate up all the cookies between breakfast and dinner!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2007
Wonderful flavor! For the first time ever, I made chocolate chip cookies that are absolutely delicious. I added the extra vanilla, baking powder, and salt, plus I chilled the cookie dough before baking. I used a cookie scooper that measure out 1 Tbsp. of dough and came up with 131 cookies! Not sure what happened, but I do know that everyone loves these cookies. Thanks, Tegan!

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2007
Delicious chewy oatmeal cookies. Next time, I will add the cloves to increase the flavor; I didn't have any when I made this. Important to chill the dough so they don't spread too much. Also, I will try these with real butter to make them even richer in taste. Great recipe, Beth!
