I'm a married (14 yrs.) mother of two wonderful girls (4 and 7). I've never lived anywhere else but in this area and love it. My food preference is inspired by the Pennsylvania Dutch way of cooking that I grew up eating. My mother was a better "cook" than me and even my hubby is better at "cooking" dishes as I prefer baking. But we've managed to get compliments from the kids on alot of our dinners.
I'm a very crafty person. I have a crafts business where I make items to take to craft shows and sell them. It's been hard to keep up with now with the kids but I still enjoy doing it. I also sell Avon but that's pretty much just a hobby. I also have a passion for gardening! That's my favorite warm weather hobby. I spend alot of time planting, pulling weeds and watering. Even the kids like to help sometimes. We also enjoy watching the wildlife that the gardens bring to our yard.
My favorite things to cook
Cookies, brownies, anything you bake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking Christmas cookies with my kids. I always did this with my Grandma and Mom and now continue the tradition. Also New Years Eve my Grandparents used to have seafood every year and when they passed away my parents started doing the cooking and this year my hubby did the cooking. We definitely take after all of them because we love to cook for everyone and make enough for an army!
My cooking tragedies
My sister and I chose to make Snitz and Knepp for New Years Day. Usually our Grandma made this but she wasn't making it that year. The key was to keep it boiling and covered so we used two big roasting pans on all 4 burners. We added the Knepp and got ready for the steady boil time. By about 10-15 minutes into it we started smelling something burning. We were afraid to turn the flames down because it needed to keep boiling. Well when the 20 minutes were up we lifted the lids and there were no more doughballs. They had disintigrated into the Snitz. To make matters worse, the Snitz also burned to the bottom of the pan, especially on one. We scooped out whatever we could salvage in that pan and put it in the other pan which fared only slightly better. The only doughballs to survive tasted like burnt apples. The whole thing had a very smokey taste. Needless to say, we've never tried to make it again even though we'd like to give it another shot.
