I'm currently in graduate school and thus away at school most of the time, but I do all the cooking when I'm home. My dad knows I'm back when baked goods appear. In the summers I work in a bakery in the small town where I live.
My favorite things to cook
Bread of any and every kind, anything involving chocolate, cinnamon rolls, fudge, scones, split pea soup, lasagna...and too much more to list. Recently I've gotten into fresh vegetables and salads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always make the cranberry sauce for my mother's family's Thanksgiving. Also, galumkes and pierogies are traditional with them. My paternal grandmother always makes ham and dandelion greens in the spring.
My cooking triumphs
In 2006 I did a Thanksgiving dinner entirely on my own. Also, the invention of reverse chocolate chip cookies went over extremely well.
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was about ten, I decided to make a lasagna and didn't realize the meat had to be cooked before assembling the thing. Ended up having to take the whole thing apart and throw most of it out. Messy and highly embarrassing.
Also, a friend and I were making chicken alfredo once, and were nearly done when we scraped one more layer off the parmesan cheese and found it was all green and moldy underneath. We had to throw out the entire pot of sauce. Oh, and I'm pretty terrible at grilling, too.
