Death By Chocolate II

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
Outstanding! The compliments I got on this when I brought it to a Christmas Eve function only confirmed what I already knew from trying it myself: this IS the ULTIMATE dessert! I cut cake up into chunks and drizzled coffee liqueur and Godiva chocolate liqueur over them as I layered. I also used real whipped cream, sweetened with just a little confectioners sugar and vanilla extract. To add a little color, I drizzled a bit of strawberry dessert topping on top of the whipped cream layers. I did NOT leave the leftovers at the hostess's house, but it followed me everywhere until it was gone, the day after Christmas!

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
This was a home run on Christmas. The blend of the flavors was fantastic together. I used potato bread and found it to be very substantial and hearty. My bread chunks were cut a bit on the larger side, so as not to turn to "mush". I did have to add a little more broth than called for, though...fantastic overall!

Jam Kolaches

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2010
Followed directions to a "T", but I did not care for these; used strawberry jam for the filling and by 10 mins. baking time, it had oozed all over the cookie sheet and out of the cookies; I doubt I even used a 1/4 teaspoon of filling, either.

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
This was good...especially the potatoes! Only wish I had made more of them! The chicken was actually a tad dry, so I may adjust temp next time...? Not sure...any suggestions, because I would really like to make this again, yet still be able to retain the chicken's juicyness! email: bobsbestgirl@hotmail.com - THANKS! Overall, a great flavor!

Grilled Tilapia with Mango Salsa

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
Everybody loved this; even the super picky 11 year old! I thought the mango salsa was a great accent, however, the rest of the family preferred to eat the fish on its own...I've made this three times and it just doesn't disappoint!

Cabbage Kielbasa Supper

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
This was absolutely wonderful! All I added was garlic powder, thyme and pepper - outstanding. 5 hours was all the cook time necessary in my slow cooker on low. This took me back to family picnics when I was a kid, and my aunts would make this every year. SO YUMMY! Thank you Margery!

Roasted Vegetable Lasagna

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
This was good, BUT: noodles just don't line up and cook right, if you place them 4 across...also, not nearly enough sauce OR veggies...next time I will have to almost double both. In the end, roasting the veggies was a very nice touch, when I previously just threw them in raw...a nice, different flavor. I ended up doubling the ricotta and mozzarella, also, as we are big cheese lovers!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Absolutely the best beef stew I've ever made - and the easiest! I will double next time, so we can enjoy it for another day - this winner was gone in one sitting!

please, please, if you must use shortening, use the butter flavored one from Crisco - every bite tasted like fried fish, or something.

Hot Spiked Cider

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
Absolutely amazing! I prepared for a holiday gathering my finace and I were hosting, and more than once, after the first batch was gone, I heard "That hot cider tasted really good! Is there any more left?" (naturally, I made another batch). I used only 1 cup of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, and it turns out perfectly, even for those not used to alcoholic beverages, but enough so that you can tell there's rum in it. Some people don't like the addition of the butter pat at the end, but I feel it truly completes this beverage. I'll be making this all winter long, now - thanks!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
5 stars for simplicity AND taste! I took advantage of a sale on boneless chicken breast, and I'm glad I did! The two other packages will come in handy when I make this next time, since one package wasn't nearly enough for us! I served with buttered egg noodles, and used slightly less than the whole package of dressing mix, but next time I will try with white rice and will use the entire package of dressing, in addition to throwing in some fresh broccoli during the last 45-60 minutes. Thank you!

My Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2008
I rated this 5 stars, because on its own, it truly is THE BEST as a basic starter chili, and leaves so many options open for variation, depending on one's own mood and tastes. WHAT I CHANGED: 1 lb. gr. turkey; 2 cans beans, rinsed; 2 cans Red Pack diced tomatoes with chilis. I also doubled up on chili powder and added a couple shakes of cilantro and Old Bay seasoning, for a unique, balanced flavor. Cook all in a crock pot for an hour on high and about 3 hours on low. I'll never make chili any other way again, after revamping everything I knew, thanks to this very simple, very crowd-pleasing treasure!

Savory Onion Corn Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
Wow, wow, wow! First off, this is excellent as it is - the sauteed onions are a real unexpected treat, for those eating this, unaware of its ingredients! I don't really need "spicy" in my cornbread to be honest, so as is, this cornbread is sweet and perfect! However, I do recommend increasing the quantity of hot sauce, for a spicy flavor. I could easily eat this as a meal - thank you so much for sharing!

Spinach Mushroom Quiche

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2008
This was my first Quiche attempt, as I am sensitive to eggs, and I was NOT disappointed. You just wouldn't believe how nicely the crescent rolls works out for a crust! It looks funny while you're lining the pan and draping the ends over the top, but the end result is absolutely perfect! This is very easy to make for anyone. It's even good heated up the next day - thank you!

My Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2008
I never liked crabcakes before, but decided to try these (I really liked the use of Old Bay seasoning and just about doubled the amount recommended). These are surprisingly easy to make and so very tasty! The aioli sauce is a MUST - it really accentuates the flavor. I've made these with both canned and frozen crab, and I will make next time with live crab - it should be ridiculous!

Baked Vegetables I

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2008
These were a wonderful variation from same o'-same o' veggies; I used to think the only way to get a good mix on bits of veggies left over after the bulk of them were used for their intended recipe, was to throw in a stir-fry, but this blows that method away! Changes I made: used canned new potatoes (all I had at the time), sliced fresh mushrooms, zuchinni, baby carrots (took the longest to cook), sweet onions, broccoli and half a green pepper. I added a little more EVOO, once I saw the volume of veggies I had; I also mixed in some minced garlic, because we are a BIG garlic family! Cooking time was spot-on, too...thank you!

Pepperoni Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2008
I made this tonight using a pizza crust recipe from this site; I used a mozz/cheddar mix shredded cheese, and much more than 1 cup - easily two; used almost an entire 6 oz pkg of pepperoni, and threw in some fresh sliced mushrooms. We didn't have italian seasoning, so I just sprinkled some basil, oregano and rosemary over the layers, instead. I also mixed in some garlic powder with the beaten egg and brushed on inside and over the top. This rolled up nicer than expected, i was extremely pleased. Topped with a sprinkle of parmesan, basil and oregano and BAM! What a hit this was - we also served with marinara for dipping, which really made it, in my opinion. Thank you!

Crab and Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
These were delicious. I used all lobster meat for New Year's eve get together, and it worked out very well. One 7 oz can was more than enough, and I did use a pre-seasoned seafood stuffing mix, but followed the rest of the recipe to a "T". I think it was just slightly bland though, and would like to try it again with the addition of minced onion and maybe some other herbs? I also used the chopped stems in the stuffing, and I agree it added to the moistness and general body of the stuffing.
