About this Cook
So now that I've been married for a few years, I figure maybe it wouldn't hurt to figure out this whole cooking thing after all. I've always been kinda cursed in the kitchen and up until recently have been far better at dialing dinner rather than cooking it. But bit by bit I'm branching out, and have moved on from consistantly disasterous to not half bad. Not exactly good, but not half bad. Baby steps.
My favorite things to cook
I'm pretty lazy, so anything easy that doesn't take a ton of time. I love making desserts, but for the sake of my waistline, can't do it anywhere near as often as I'd like.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Since I'm from Boston, everything was always pretty much baked or broiled, and never particularly flavorful. However, once I moved down south for several years, I learned what it meant to taste something that's actually been seasoned. So hopefully that becomes my food tradition: Food that has taste; good taste.
My cooking triumphs
I made my first stew without ruining any pans and it was pretty yummy. (hooray!)
My cooking tragedies
Most everything else.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
These are amazing, and keep moist for a long time too. My only recommendation is to use an insulated cookie sheet if you have one. It considerably widens the window between underdone and burnt.

Quick Lemon Dijon Chicken
Not bad, but probably could have used some more seasoning.

Mexican Chocolate Cake
This recipe was wonderful and INCREDIBLY moist. The only changes I made/recommend is adding more spices. I added a little allspice, nutmeg and chili powder, and it was sooooo amazing. I also topped it with the coffee cinnamon frosting from this site and used chocolate frosting on the sides and inbetween layers. (used two 9X9 cake pans for 24 minutes). Wonderful, thank you!
