World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2009
Did the recipe as directed and ended up with a pretty good lasagna to serve at a dinner party, but honestly, there were a lot of leftovers and my husband asked me later why I didn't stick with my usual recipe.

Hawaiian Banana Nut Bread

Reviewed: May 1, 2008
A good, moist banana bread recipe. Instead of walnuts I used macadamia nuts, and I spread the batter out to three smaller pans (whatever size the disposable foil ones are) and still had the same baking time. Otherwise, I made the recipe as directed. I expected more chunks of taste of cherry and pineapple, but the crushed pineapple sort of disappeared into the bread and I only had the occasional taste of cherry. I will make this again, but with some adjustments.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
This version of a pumpkin pie had a richer taste than the old evaporated milk recipe. With my DH's enthusiastic backing, I am now making this one our Go To pumpkin pie recipe.

Boston Baked Beans

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
I made the recipe exactly as written and while I thought the sauce part was very good, I had issues with the beans, especially the one another reviewer had mentioned about the beans falling apart after so much cooking. I'll hang onto the sauce part of the recipe, but I'm using canned beans next time and adjusting the cooking time.

Bacon and Tomato Cups

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
Like suggested, I only used enough mayo to hold it together and was pleased with the consistency. These held up beautifully in transit and went over well at a baby shower, although for the personal tastes of those on my household, I think I'll try a different cheese next time.

Cranberry Nut Tarts

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
I find the usual tassies a little bland so I also increased the cranberries to 1/2c and pecans to 4T (and was eating the filling with a spoon it was so good), and I would've been happier with even more of both. This is a good cookie and a nice change from the usual tassie.

Seeing that I love fruity drinks, it's no surprise how much I enjoyed this one. Thanks so much.

Authentic German Potato Salad

Love this recipe. It's one of the few where I don't change it a whit from how it's written.

Cappuccino Cookie Bar

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2007
Wow, did this turn out greasy. Just out of morbid curiosity, I tested the base with my cake tester and it came out clean even before it was baked. The flavor was wonderful with 1/3c instant coffee mixed in the the flour and the chocolate chips melted over the top, but I couldn't get over that greasiness. Next time I'll use a regular chocolate chip pan cookie base with the added coffee and save the chocolate chips for the top.

Raspberry Oatmeal Bars

I used all fruit seedless raspberry, a bit more than what was called for, and this turned out to be a big hit at the bake sale.

Corn Chip Crunch

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
Followed the recipe as written and didn't have any problems creating this simple, sweet and crunchy snack. I'd made some for a bake sale, but now there isn't enough left to donate. A word of caution though- if you're new to making candy (like this candy coating) don't short cut past the greasing of the pan and then turning the baked mix onto wax paper or a lot of your snack mix will stick to the pan.

Cherry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2007
More than 48 hours later and it's still like pudding instead of firming up to the point where it could be sliced. It also tasted strongly of the condensed milk. I love cheesecake in its many forms, but this was a disappointment all the way around.

Pumpkin Apple Streusel Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2007
I did the recipe as written, and after tasting the super thick batter, I knew that it was too sweet for my taste so I barely dusted them with the topping. Coming out of the oven, the muffins were a wonderful mix of apple and pumpkin pie flavor so I will most definitely make these again, but I will most definitely be cutting back on the sugar.

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2007
Used leftover turkey instead of chicken and made it without the fruit for DH, but added the fruit for my half. Loved it both ways- still had that interesting, complex curry taste, but it didn't overpower everything else. Very, very nice.

Ground Beef Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2007
It was easy and inexpensive as promised. I reduced the potatoes to five and used chopped carrots instead of baby, but otherwise I followed the recipe as written. Unfortunately, something about the combination of spices and tomato products made the sauce end up tasting like Chefboyardee to both of us. Not a bad recipe, but not one I'll make again.
