Apple Crisp I

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
I'll give it 5 stars. It tasted great! Uses ingredients I have on hand! And it doesn't use a stick of butter like most recipes - due to that fact I will be more likely to make it more often. I think the addition of the egg is a brilliant way to get such a crispy crust.. I generally like oats in my topping but I didn't miss them here. I used granny smith apples. Oh one more comment. I thought it was a good topping to fruit ratio - not too much and not too little. THANKS!

Marinade for Steak I

Good flavor. Did not overpower the meat. Will definitely make again. I was a little uncertain of the lemon juice but it did work well.

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
I have 4 children and therefore lots of birthday parties and class parties and scout parties and sports team parties (you get the picture). I have been searching for the perfect yellow cake to use for frosted cakes. This cake was OK but it was not as light as I would have liked or flavorful enough. I will keep searching. The one positive thing I can say about this recipe is that it is a DENSE cake - almost like a pound cake - it held up great in a shaped pan. I've made the recipe twice.

Chocolate Chip Meringue Drops

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2010
Wonderful! I lost the recipe I had for making meringue cookies and found this one on this site and gave it a try. They turned out wonderfully. The only change I made was adding a little cream of tartar to the egg whites to help stabilize them. I always add a little cream of tartar when I'm beating egg whites to stiff peaks. My old recipe had choc. chips in it but not cocoa powder. I LOVE the addition of cocoa powder! The only downside is having to wait 3 hours for these to bake. :-) One tip: go ahead and make a double batch! One more tip: I must have made mine too big I got no where near as many cookies as the recipe called for.

Marinated Ranch Broiled Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2010
Not sure whether to give this 3 or 4 stars. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. It didn't have much of the ranch flavor that I was expecting. I had higher expectations for this recipe.

Snow Ice Cream II

So easy and good. I liked that it used milk instead of cream or Condensed milk - since I'm more likely to have milk on hand at all times.

It was very good. Can't get much easier than this. Mine didn't get sticky. I cooked my 4lb chickens a little over 4 hours.

Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love rich. I love sweet. But these were WWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYY to rich and sweet. Edited: They were better once they were completely cool and crunchy. I did like the texture and taste of the cookie part. I will probably make them again reducing amount of both chips.

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Wonderful! I've also tried it with white wine instead of beer and is equally as good if not better. I use eye of round roast b/c its leaner. Delicious!!! Going into regular dinner rotation!!!

It was good but I've certainly had better in restaurants. I served it to friends and people ate it but didn't ooo and ahhh over it like they usually do over my cooking. The recipe title had me expecting more.

Slow Cooker Lemon Garlic Chicken II

Not great. Chicken was sort of dry. The flavoring didn't really penetrate the chicken like you expect from a slow cooker recipe. Will not make this one again.

Delicious Grilled Hamburgers

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2009
I give this recipe 5 stars on one condition - reduce liquid smoke to 1/4 teaspoon. I cannot fathom 1T. I don't like recipes with lots of chopped veggies and eggs and bread - I think the burgers end up tasting like meatloaf instead of burgers. This recipe gave the burgers a real meaty, smoky taste. I used 90% (or was it 93%???) lean beef and they tasted better than lean burgers usually taste.

Thick Cut-Outs

Doubled vanilla and added almond for more flavor. Cookies turn out beautifully - will never use another cut out recipe. I've made these 3 times now and get rave reviews b/c they are so pretty. I didn't use the glaze from this recipe. I use "Sugar Cookie Icing" from this site.

Really good recipe. I followed it exactly. Makes big cookies. Dough easy to work with and freezes well too. Some said they were too crumbly I didn't find that at all.

Whole Wheat, Oatmeal, and Banana Pancakes

These were fantastic. Everyone from my health-food phobic husband to my won't eat anything two year old gobbled these up. I did throw a handful of mini chocolate chips in (but the would be great w/o it). I didn't have powdered milk - so I omitted it. I also added cinnamon as others suggested. New Weekend tradition

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2009
I followed the recipe almost exactly - only added a little vanilla (which I add to most baked goods). The texture was perfect - nice and fat and puffy - chewy in the middle and crispy on the edges. I think the Crisco is what helps them puff so much. They are VERY chocolaty - weight conscious could easily reduce chips to save calories and still have a very chocolaty treat! I may try the butter flavor Crisco next time to get the flavor but keep the wonderful texture. I noticed other reviews cut the amount of salt - these are a *little* on the salty side but I LOVE salty/sweet combo. Makes a LOT of good-sized cookies!
