I'm a college student sharing an apartment with two other girls. I try to cook dinners over the weekend, including the occasional gourmet dinner for my boyfriend. I much prefer baking to cooking, but alas, I can't sustain myself on cookies and cake.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy making anything new. I dislike falling into routines, so I like to cook new things all the time. I love to try things I've never attempted before--the other night, I made mango chicken, and I've never had a mango before, much less diced one (not an easy task for someone who's not very sure what she's doing with it).
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and I always make her cherry cake together for my brother's and my birthdays, and I tend to also make my cherry brownies fairly often with her during our weekly family meals.
My cooking triumphs
I think my favorite cooking triumph would have to be my cherry brownies--they're quite simple, but I love them. I simply use a brownie mix and add cherry juice in place of water and throw in about a half cup of quartered cherries.
My cooking tragedies
I am a mess when it comes to making any sort of fancy cookies. Even refrigerator cookies tend to get the better of me. I love making them, but they never come out looking very pretty, and often don't taste like anything edible either.
