I love cooking for family and friends, especially at the drop of a hat! That is when it is the most interesting and fun to see what I can come up with. Everyone is always asking for my recipes. Usually when I find a recipe, I change and adapt it to my family's tastes and come up with a totally new recipe. I now have the opportunity to cook on a show called "Food for Thought" in our local area. The TV station in Port St Joe, Florida has this show, which airs daily at 10am and 6pm EDT and I am priviledged to get to cook on this show one week per month. This is a fantstic honor for me. I love to share my recipes with the locals and the tourists who come to the area. My husband calls me his "TV star".
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are Southern Fried Chicken, Homemade Potato Salad, Turnip Greens, Homemade Apple Pie, and Italian Cassata Cake. Most of this is just good 'ole home cooking. One is a recipe from my husband's fathers history.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I learned to cook when I was just tall enough to stand and put a bowl in the seat of a chair to learn to make cornbread. My maternal grandmother taught me how to do this. I still make it cornbread from this recipe today. I do not know the exact measurements for the ingredients, only the "eyeball" amounts. I leaned a few new traditions from my first husband's grandmother for New Year's Day from South Central Pennsylvania that I love which include roasted pork and saurkraut with dumplings.
My cooking triumphs
I now am enjoying doing a guest stint on a cooking show called "Food for Thought" in Port St Joe, FL on the local TV station one week a month. This show airs for a week each month. This gives me a chance to share recipes that I love and show others how easy it is to be able to have a wonderful meal without a lot of hard work.
My cooking tragedies
Luckily, I haven't had too many tragedies. However, I have never been able to make my own homemade biscuits to perfection. I even tell every one they could take them to the skeet shooting range for practice.
