Quick Yeast Rolls

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2009
I needed something relatively quick for an emergency batch of cinnamon rolls and tried this recipe. I ended up using quite a bit more flour to make them just not-sticky enough to roll out. I didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly suprised! Even with the extra flour and handling, they were still actually the lightest and fluffiest cinnamon rolls I've ever made. I'm definitely impressed and so was my family!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
WOW! I thought I already knew the world's best chocolate chip cookie recipe, but I was wrong!! I tried this one just because my cookbooks are all in storage and I needed something to make cookies for my son's class. Were they ever a major hit!! I followed the recipe as is, just doubled it. They were incredible! My only advice is to plan around baking them. We only could fit 4 on a sheet, so if you're making a double batch, you need to plan for at least a couple hours of baking time. Not difficult, just makes for a late night if you're trying to throw them together at the last minute. Thanks for a great new family recipe!!

Vinegar and Egg Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
This crust was incredible with "Apple Pie by Grandma Opel" by MOSHASMAMA. It worked great, I just followed the directions and didn't even freeze the shortning or anything. My 3 year old took a little bit and worked it over and over and over, as only a 3 year old can, and when I eventually rolled it out and baked it with cinnamon sugar, it was still incredible. The texture is so addicting. It's amazing. It's a different kind of flaky than the traditional pie recipe delivers. It's more of a melt-in-your-mouth kind of flaky. It's wonderful! I did brush the bottom with egg white before adding pie filling. I don't know whether it made a big difference, but the end result was absolute perfection!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
W O W ! I've never been one to be overly excited about apple pie, but this one is really amazing! I didn't do anything special, just followed the recipe as closeley as possible. I didn't have unsalted butter, so I just used regular butter and I really don't know how it could actually be any better. Didn't even miss the cinnamon's absence. I used "Vinegar and Egg Crust" by Ron Schmaeman and it was the perfect pair. Each bite just melted in our mouths. Wow!!!!!

Dreamy Fudge Bar Cookies

Reviewed: May 13, 2008
These turned out great. I found the amount of almond extract to be perfect -- very mild; and I'm generally pretty sensitive to things like that. The dough WAS dry, like another viewer commented. However, I just added 2 tablespoons of water and it turned out fine. In the future I would add the water at the same time I add the eggs and also I might use butter/marg instead of shortening to make them even more savory and irresistable. Thanks for a great recipe!

I really wanted this to be as good as I was imagining. However, It WAS very bland and needed quite a bit of jazzing up -- and we have very mild taste.

Easy Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
I liked this recipe a lot. I'm on my second try and still trying to get the cooking time/temp right. Last time it was overcooked and fell apart -- not that I've ever complained about incredibly tender and delicious meat -- but it wasn't exactly what we were expecting for Easter dinner. Still very good, though and I used the leftovers mixed with a little honey bbq sauce from Fresh-n-Easy for the best BBQ sandwiches I've ever eaten!

This is pretty good and a great way to disguise healthy food for my kids. The rise is a lot less detectable than I expected. The flavor is nice.

Pizza Sauce I

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2008
This was wonderful! I used a can of diced tomatoes and dried herbs. It was still five stars! It was a wonderful dipping sauce, then I pureed the leftovers for spaghetti sauce. It was great, though I think a little better for pizza than spaghetti. My only advice is that it was a tad salty -- likely because of the canned rather than fresh tomatoes. If I don't have fresh on hand next time, I'll just salt to taste at the end. Thanks! This recipe was so easy and just what I've been looking for for years!!

Sweetened Popcorn

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2007
This is great! Thanks -- I have been looking for this recipe for a year! The whole family loved it! It's not a sticky sort of popcorn treat and it's not quite like the hard-tack carmel corn. It's a sugary crispy texture that really is addicting. I agree that it is a little too sweet as written but we just added a lot more popcorn and it was perfect! I think you could put 9 cups or maybe even more with one batch of the syrup. We also used popcorn that's buttered & salted, and that makes a difference as well-- This recipe would be great with microwave popcorn. You can also put this over corn puffs (not the cereal -- the kind that are sold with the chips. They're like Cheetos without the cheese) and that makes a fun treat without all the choking hazards and hard pieces.

Meatball Sandwich

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2007
These were great!!! Thank you for posting this recipe. It will be a family favorite from now on!! YUM! I made the meatballs by using a large scoop and just scooping the meatballs into a mini-muffin tin. It was easy and aside from having to stick your hands into the meat to mix it up (which I have to admit really is the best way to get it all together in this case)it relieves a lot of the meat-touching moments. I'm a little whimpy when it comes to handling raw meat. :) BUT IT'S SO WORTH IT WHEN THIS RECIPE IS THE END PRODUCT!

Slow-Cooked Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2007
This was great! We didn't have any peppers, so we left that part out. I was expecting something sweeter, but the taste was really good even though it wasn't what I was expecting. I also used frozen boneless chicken breasts and just kept them in the slow cooker all dat -- it was great and super easy! We ate the leftovers with potatoes and used the sauce as gravy. Then I used the still-left-overs for a chicken sandwich and it was wonderful! The meat is so tender when it's done and the sauce has nice chunks of vegetables, so I think it would also be good shredded and served in a tortilla "wrap". Thanks!
