About this Cook
I'm 21 and finally in my own apartment (with 3 female roomies). This apartment's beautiful kitchen has given me the baking bug, which has also spawned the cooking disease. :D I grew up in an extremely food-orientated French-Canadian household (my parents used to own a coffee truck business out of our home) and so have always been surrounded by food. My mom was pretty territorial of her kitchen, though, so now that I have my own range to roam, I do as often as I can. I have also over the past year developed a slight obsession with the food network. That teamed with my new kitchen has created a monster: me!
My favorite things to cook
I love, LOVE baking. I began with time & family tested recipes from my mother, and now I've branched out to anything that sounds good to me. I have a love for cheesecake that no man will ever come between. And I love making things that I have always wanted to buy and try, cause baking them at home makes them that much better! Also, as a 7 year vegetarian, I am always looking for tasty, innovative ways to keep a meatless diet.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving is always at my house and everyone brings the same things every year, so it's such a comfortable familiar food experience. And when things seem like they'll become played out, someone will tweak a recipe enough to keep it familiar, yet jazzes it up at the same time.
My cooking triumphs
Pumpkin cheesecake with homemade cranberry sause and whipped cream. My most acclaimed dessert to date. My family also LOVES my white-cranberry biscotti, whose recipe I founf on this very site!

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins
First off, I only used 1/4 of the oil. I also added 2 tablespoons of flax seeds to make it a bit more healthy, and also added about a teaspoon of cinnamon, and some quick oats to top the muffins before baking. They came out great! Super subtle sweetness. I made the mistake of using milk chocolate chips, which I now understand sink to the bottom of the muffin. But it's like an added surprise.

Oatmeal and Applesauce Pancakes
GREAT pancakes! What I did differently: added 3/4 tablespoon cinnamon, couple pinches of nutmeg and 3 tablespoons of organic cane sugar. Also- used 1/2 cup of cottage cheese (that was smushed a bit extra with a fork to minimize the lumpy-ness) in place of sour cream (didn't have any). Even with this change, they were wonderfully hearty and moist. Will definitely make again- with Stonyfield organic maple yogurt and walnuts. mmmm.

Lentil Soup
Fantastic recipe! After recently returning to a vegetarian lifestyle, I've been searching for filling and nutritious recipes I can make on Sundays that'll last me as leftovers all week. This one is a definite keeper for my recipe book. Changes I made (based on the many reviews I read): Firstly, I browned the onions and garlic together in the olive oil to really bring out the garlic flavor. I used 11 cups of water, and 6 veg. boullion cubes, 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of both oregano and basil. I also added garlic salt, 3 bay leaves and some extra crushed tomatoes. I like my soup a bit more brothy, so if you do, too- definitely add more water/stock. It makes a difference. All in all, wonderful.
