Recently semi-retired. I am now able to indulge myself with all the time I need doing the things I love. I am very happy spending time at the Kitchen Island my son helped me build. It is one of a kind and it's one of the ways I "love my family with my hands and creativity" while I work up some tasty foods.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking up pretty goodies to share with family and friends. I am also an avid collector of Poultry recipes and this helps to keep my husband and me healthy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was about 12 years old when my father suggested to my mother that she teach me to cook and she replied, "she can already out-cook me". She's been gone a few years now and nothing makes me feel closer to her than when I am cooking up one of her recipes and remembering our kitchen times together.
My cooking triumphs
A family get together wouldn't be complete unless I brought my homemade bread. It is real comfort food, rich tasting and dense. What's left makes the best toast the next morning. Yum!
My cooking tragedies
One of the first meals I cooked for my new daughter-in-law was a very expensive prime rib roast. I completely zoned out on that one. My oven was new and I went strictly by the recipe and didn't use a thermometer and needless to say, the roast came out very, very rare. Unfortunately, my new daughter-in-law and my husband are both "well done" folks. Glad to say, I was forgiven and she is one of my best friends and the best present my son ever gave me.
