My mom practically never cooks, and my dad pretty much only makes rice dishes; the rest of the time we ate plain fruit and vegetables or packaged foods like yogurt and macaroni. I've been married now for over two years, and I've gradually built up my skills as a cook, with the help of several cookbooks and the support of my husband (he thanks me for dirtying the dishes with such yummy food as he washes them, the sweetheart!).
My favorite things to cook
quesadillas
My favorite family cooking traditions
Rice is a great, versatile staple that lends itself well as a complement to many dishes.
My cooking triumphs
One day when my husband was quite sick, I asked him what sounded appetizing until finally he agreed with tomatoes. So I went to the fridge and pulled out tomatoes, then threw together a few other ingredients and created a sandwich he loved. He could hardly believe I hadn't followed a recipe! Now we call them Tomato Salad Sandwiches.
My cooking tragedies
When I forget to use a timer, I tend to burn things. Even when carefully watching cookies, I sometimes let them brown too much before taking them out. Until I started using bread flour, the loaves from my bread machine came out way too tough.
