About this Cook
I have a strong desire to eat well and to feed my loved ones. If possible, I'd like to continue my family's tradition of eating in the home and only resorting to fatty-fast foods in cases of extreme desperacy!
My favorite things to cook
Stir frys, pho, papaya salad, various pasta dishes, cookies, cake, and anything else involving frosting!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm not sure if it's a tradition, but just being in the kitchen with my parents as they cooked together and spoke about food as if it were art.. that's my favourite family memory associated with cooking. My parents were able to teach me a fusion of Asian and European methods because of their mixed backgrounds.
My cooking triumphs
Until I've mastered the perfect Peking Duck a l'orange, I don't really claim a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
I'm miserable with anything that's too complicated and involves too many gadgets. I try to keep it down to a meat cleaver and chef's knife.

Sandy's Chocolate Cake
This cake is delicious! Instead of using baking cocoa, I had to use Perugina's Cocoa with Amaro scent. It lent the cake a deep richness and exquisite dark chocolate perfume to this cake! I found that I had to bake the cake about 10 minutes or so longer than the indicated time, but it could be my oven.. toothpick test your cake to see when it's ready. Also, it's practically impossible to get sour cream in Rome, so I used a plain yogurt substitute instead. It's delightful even with the substitute, and the only difference maybe that the yogurt makes it a little more moist, which I rather like! Perfect to pair with coffee.

Vietnamese Sandwich
A sandwich with fresh ingredients like this is always good, but this isn't terribly authentic. Missing the pate and fresh jalapeno pepper slices. Also, pickled carrots and onion are usually found in these types of sandwiches.
