Like most people I made a resolution this year to lose weight.  I've never been a fan of weight loss programs--I won't drink my meals in the form of a shake, I would rather just eat an apple than a "protein bar" laden with artificial sweeteners and syrups.  I'm into real food.  I want to… MORE

One of the best parts of our trips to Chincoteague Island is all the great seafood we get to eat.  In the summer we gorge ourselves on blue crab, flounder, oysters, clams...  all the good stuff.  In the winter we do the same, except there are no blue crabs, so we gorge ourselves on oysters… MORE

As I correctly foretold in my first blog entry, menu planning entailed an immediate tradeoff. I traded hobby for home cooking.  On any normal Sunday, you can find me somewhere in the Cascades, pounding my way up a trail. That makes it really hard to plan meals. You get back tired and sweaty… MORE

Today, my fasting BG was 229.  Needless to say, I am thrilled to see my numbers dropping!  In fact, without seeing some success, I would have struggled through today.  On New Year's Eve, my holiday sniffles grew into a full-blown case of sinusitis.  Yay, me!  The doctor prescribed… MORE

Anyone who knew my mom, knew how much she loved kids. She was an elementary school nurse and the president of the children’s organization at church many times over. She grew up the 2nd oldest in a family of 5 from Salt Lake City. She loved big families, but was only blessed with myself, and… MORE

Hello everyone. I hope your holidays went well. Things are still whacky and am looking forward to getting back into the routine of the unroutine that is my life. First off, thank you - all of you- for your prayers and wishes for my dad's recovery. It seems to have helped. He is doing better.… MORE

My fasting BG was 263 today.  Not a significant difference than yesterday, but I woke up feeling great!  In the past year, I often wake with joint pain and feeling a bit blah.  Whether it is diet, optimism, or just getting rest over the holiday, I'm not questioning it!  Also, and this is a… MORE

I have never cooked with barley, this is a first. I Found a recipe titled beef barley vegetable soup, by Margoc, stayed with the recipe except for the 16 ounces of mixed vegies, used 16 ounces of frozen peas. Must say it was savory, and the barley added a fullness to the dish, but on the down… MORE

Oh! Shakespeare what is in an egg noodle recipe that confounds, confuses and causes so many tutorials to be written - yet many wander in darkness afraid to roll a noodle?  For this recipe I hit the tutorials.  I watched acres of You Tube (yeah I know what an acre is, but isn't it a cool… MORE

Every year, as an avowed bibliophile, I try to find for my good wife, an assortment of great reads for Christmas. This year, for some reason, the pickings were slim so I set out find a cookbook for her.Now you must understand, my wife doesn't hate cooking, she has humble British roots and of… MORE
