I had several bags of dried fruit in my pantry and wanted to use them. I remember recently when I ate out of my pantry, frig, and freezer for a month without having to do any major grocery shopping. I did not want to let myself have that much again, so I decided to use those fruits in REALLY, … MORE

Today I got back in the kitchen after being on an "open box here" hiatus and let me tell you, I forgot how much fun real cooking was!  After resigning from my full time career in March of 2012 as a claims adjuster to be a stay at home mom I vowed to never go back to the "open box here" days.… MORE

It's been three very interesting months (12 weekly menus) of menu planning together.  My friend and I are learning many things about weekly circulars, favorite recipes, and how expensive seafood and bacon can be  no matter where you are on the East coast!   We have seen so far, that most of… MORE

I should have known complications were on my itinerary when my son-in-law questioned my wisdom in booking three connections from Windsor Locks, CT to Burbank, CA. “I’m trying to fly into a closer airport so you don’t have to drive to LAX,” I defended. On a previous trip he had requested I do… MORE

I hear all the time that people (husbands especially) won't eat left-overs. I can't imagine wasting perfectly good food. I just "repurpose" it. I'm guessing that people get burned out eating the same thing day after day. I definitely would! But if you make something brand new out of it, is it… MORE

When the heat is on, (we were 100+ already,) it's nice not to heat up the kitchen any more than required to pull a meal together.  Fresh produce is once again available at some rather reasonable prices, so of course, the "side salad" has been served here more than once, but I also have many… MORE

My mother holding me June 1970.  Does she even look like she had a kid my size? I grew up well.  When I say that, I just knew how fortunate I was in comparison to other people.  I had two intelligent parents, a large home, and never really needed anything.  Don't confuse that with being… MORE

Well, I'm back teaching. I have a kindergarten class in Bushwick, Brooklyn.  Before the accident I commuted in a car daily, however, I only drive around here, in Cold Spring Harbor and Huntington.  This past week I took the LIRR and subway to work.  Guess what? I'm finding that I'm less… MORE

After many valiant attempts, Thomas has accepted that he will not be permitted entry into the house. He has, instead, chosen to sleep on the arm of the wicker love seat, the same one Bruno prefers to sleep on. It didn’t strike me as a pet bed when I purchased it, but it’s not the first time I… MORE
